I knew what you meant, not sure what we call them here, but a bulldog clip is used to hold paper together here... Weird.

Yeah, we use bulldog clips (the other type) for paper too...but we also call the hair things bulldog clips, crocodile clips and claws.

Sorry to post the same thing in two threads, but I wanted to mention this in the fashion thread as well. (I posted these same pics in the Baby-sitters Beware thread.) I wanted to try doodling some of the outfits described in the BSC books (mainly Claudia and/or Stacey outfits) and I decided to start with two outfits from Super Mystery #2, Baby-sitters Beware, just because it's the one I'm reading now, and because I love the Super Mysteries (I already posted these pics in the separate thread from that book). So on pages 24 and 25, Jessi tells us that Stacey "wore black leggings with cowboy boots, an oversized turtleneck sweater, and this cool black suede vest with pearl buttons...Stacey had gone for your basic gold earrings." She also says that Claudia "was wearing leggings, too - purple ones - with black Doc Martens, red slouch socks, black bicycle shorts over the leggings, a big T-shirt with the words "This Might Be Art" scrawled on it in purple (I knew she'd made it herself), and an old black suit jacket of her father's, with the sleeves rolled up...Claudia's earrings were purple feathers (she made those herself, too)." So here's Stacey's. They didn't say the color of the sweater, but I'm assuming it was also supposed to be black. But I thought that many layers of black looked bad, so I made the sweater gray. I wasn't sure what to do with her hair (perm or not), so I tried to make it look sorta like her hair on the cover. Stacey, I kinda liked the sound of your outfit until we got to the part with the pearl buttons. And then here's Claudia. They didn't say the color of the t-shirt - in my mind I pictured it red. I wanted to draw her in a side pony tail, but I figured if Jessi didn't describe it, her hair was just down. Has anyone else tried drawing some of the outfits in the books? Or recreating the outfits with actual clothes? I would really, really love to see other people's pictures.

I like Claudia especially. She reminds me of Pocahontas.

So the key to Claudia's outfits sounding good is to draw them out. She looks cute but much more put together than I picture her. She matches, lol. You're a good artist, celaeno!

I like Claudia especially. She reminds me of Pocahontas. Especially with the feather earrings! I'm looking at the pictures on my work computer now, and Claudia's skin looks darker than when I colored them on my home computer. If I ever draw her again, I think I would try a lighter skin tone, so she looks more Japanese and less Native American. Do the Chapter 2 descriptions sometimes say that Claudia has a "creamy white complexion"? Or am I imagining that? Thanks for the comments, everyone. Wouldn't this be a great idea for a new blog? Recreating BSC outfits, either by drawing them, or taking photos of yourself creating the outfits from clothes in your closet or at Goodwill, or dressing up Barbies in the outfits, etc. It's What Claudia Wore, to a whole new level!

I was surprised that those flowery dress tops were not really mentioned (I think they were called trapeeze tops?) in descriptions. I recall Claudia wearing them on covers and Stacey wearing it in one of the BSC series videos. Those were everywhere in the early 90's I stopped buying new ones in the mid 90's, but I can't help but wonder if glittery butterfly clips and insect barrettes were mentioned. I know sheep definitely weren't

Digging up an old thread but going on the little discussion of flop socks in the LS fashionista thread, I have another thing to bring up that's always bugged me. So I looked if we had a fashion thread and sure enough, there was one!
You know how Claudia and Stacey would layer push-down socks "so their legs looked like ice cream cones" all the time? How did they achieve that? Like, were they wearing three pairs of socks at once? That can't have been comfortable! Also I always thought the push-down socks is what they meant when they said flop socks. Like you'd push down the cuffs so they'd flop down.

This says to buy different length socks for better results. You are indeed wearing multiple pairs of socks at once. Edit for a picture. Those are some fat, warm feet:

That can't be comfortable! And how do your shoes fit with all that extra material? XD
Couldn't you just achieve the same look with multiple leg warmers? Those were popular in the 80s but it felt like Jessi was the only one who wore them because she was a ballerina.

Those were popular in the 80s but it felt like Jessi was the only one who wore them because she was a ballerina. My guess is that they had some oversized shoes to go with it. I can't see how it would work otherwise. I feel like I would love this in winter because I hate the feeling of cold feet, but I can't imagine enduring it any other time of year lol. I think in one book either Stacey or Claud wore layered socks in summer and I thought they were absolutely crazy! I know the comment earlier was old, but I love love love the idea of a blog with drawings of BSC outfits.
