i dont think myriah and gabby are mom names and def knew some laura's growing up. My best friend in kindergarden was named laura. I guess there aren't too many "dad" names heheh Yeah, Myriah and Gabby definitely aren't (I wonder, maybe because they where named after real children?). A few that always strike me "mom names" are Karen, Nancy, Susan, Marilyn, Carolyn, Pamela, etc. Basically names that were really popular in the 50's and 60's. There aren't really too many dad names because boys names generally don't tend to reflect current trends as much as girls names (though they're definitely starting too which is evident by all of the Jaydens, Braydens, Kadens, Aiden's, etc.) I'm kind of a nerd about the sociological aspects of names, can you tell?

I know a Claudia in real life (part Asian and likes to dress up too!) who turned out to be a very bitchy, two-faced friend. Ms Kishi comes out smelling like a rose next to her, except for maybe in Stacey vs Claudia, heh. One of my best friends is named Jessie (with the e but close enough). I recall reading the BSC around the same time the Rodney King trial was going on in 1991-92, and one of the MALE cops being investigated was named Stacey someone, spelled that exact way. I remember being surprised he was a male with that name. And And I always find myself calling the actress Scarlett Johanssen, "Charlotte Johanssen." Doesn't help that the character she played in Lost in Translation was named Charlotte, so way to get me more confused.

My mom's name is Marilyn. I always thought it was cool reading about the arnold twins as a kid because of this. And I thought it was cool reading about the Kuhn kids, 'cause my mom's name is Laurel. I called a Norman Hill a few weeks ago at the call centre. Oh, and I looked at my notes from work, and it was actually a Claudia Zorzi I called, not a Claudia Zizmore, which is even better, 'cause he's the one who accuses Claudia of cheating. I got the two math teachers' names mixed up, but really, who could blame me? Speaking of which, I watched Mean Girls again last night. Who couldn't think of Stacey any time there's Mathletes stuff in that movie?

I can't believe I never thought of this before, but one of my best friends is named Alex, and actually I know quite a few of them. I always liked that name.
I thought of Stacey too in "Mean girls" during the Matheletes stuff. I am glad I am not the only one.

Dawnomite, are you familiar with Not Without My Handbag? (I know, weird site name.) It has a huge section about weird and wacky names. You'll laugh yourself to tears over some of it, I promise.

I love that site. I'm even registered on the message board, although I only posted a few times back in the winter. I'll have to spend more time on that board whenever my schedule clears up somewhat.

I work with a girl named Vanessa, but I don't really consider that a BSC name cause I have known a zillion Vanessas over the years. It counts! My name is Vanessa!

I've never understood why so many people say that "Karen" is an older person's name. I've known plenty of Karens. My very best friend in third grade was named Karen, but she had brown hair, not blond hair. I also had a girl in my drivers' ed class named Mallory (although her name is spelled Malory). I knew a Kristy (spelled Kristi) and a Mary Anne (spelled Mary Ann) from my old brownie troop and encountered numerous Jessicas but only one of them wanted to be called Jessi.

This isn't a BSC thing, but since I know lots of BSC fans also read the Alice series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, I thought I'd mention that at the call centre the other day, I called a woman named Sylvia Patrick.

Every time I hear any of the girls' names, I think of the BSC. This was kind of strange with one of the girls I tutored being named Jessi and another one being Abbey. ;D I kept picturing the club members, which was totally inaccurate.
