That's true, but for the most part, I was always under the impression they mostly spent time with their BFF.

I like the moments where they turn to someone besides their best friends. I just reread Mary Anne vs. Logan, and when Logan's annoying her and she needs advice, Mary Anne calls Stacey and Claudia. I liked that a lot. Me too.

In Stacey and the Cheerleaders, Jessi helps Stacey with her cheerleading routine. That was an interesting combination to me, especially since it was the beginning of Stacey being too cool for school.

^I liked that, too.
That made me think, though: I think we use the term "best friends" kind of loosely. There are people I think of as best friends (as in people I'm good friends with), but then there are BEST friends, the people who understand me in a way that few people do. Does that make sense?

^ Totally. I know exactly what you mean. I have friends like that in my life as well. It's like I said before, I think the girls were all best friends. After all, it's hard to spend that much time with someone or a group of people and not be super close to them. I think they all considered each other best friends, even though they each had one (or two, in Mary Anne's case) person/people they were extra close with. I always found it a bit weird when they'd say that they're pretty close or good friends with the club, but only one girl was their best friend. They were definitely a close group of friends.

I agree 100%. I'm like that too. I have a few people who are my best friends, and then I guess there are my 'best best friends' but I don't call them anything other than best friends, like what the BSC did, lol.

I am lucky. I have four people I can call my best friend, ones who I can tell anything and everything to, and know that they will never ever be disappointed with me and will help me as much as they are able to. I also have plenty of wonderful friends who I consider my best friends but can't always tell everything to. Although, I am pretty open and will tell anyone anything, if they ask.
I always really liked it when they hung out with other people then their best friends in the series. I do think that Mary Anne may have been close to all of them, including Mallory and Jessi (she seemed/seems to have babysat the Pikes a little more than the other girls did). The only ones I don't see her particularily close to are maybe Stacey (even then, I think she is) and Abby. Kristy, I think is the only one who is set on ONE best friend. All the others describe as only have one best friend, but I think it is only because there hasn't been anyone else they can share the special bond with.

^I keep thinking I should quit using the term "best friend" at all, because it could apply to several people.

I had two best friends growing... I was such a karen it's ridiculous. I like to think I've mellowed out now, however one of them and I were always kind of vying for the shyer quieter one's attention. It's weird. I remember one period in third grade I gave up on them and went in search of new friends in my third grade class. hanging out with the popular girls for a couple of weeks and then with the guys. (probably only reason i was tolerated by the really popular girl was cause we'd grown up together and had been thrown together when we were babies...oh and that i had a sega genesis probably didn't hurt either). But...yeah , i went back to my two best buds after awhile. We grew apart when we entered high school. Still hung around some during freshman year, but not as much.
I have a couple i consider my best friends that I can basically tell anything to. One, I'm living with her family right now, so it's kind of HARD to keep anything from her.. .another one knows basically everything there is to knwo about me, and a third, I've known since sixth grade, and even though she lives hundreds of miles away now, (i moved), I still try and keep in contact with her, and I know I can count on her if i need it.
Some of my favorite parts of the BSC boosk were when the girls hung out with otheres that weren't their specified "bff". I loved seeing interaction between the others, esp. Kristy and Dawn since there seemed to be so much tension between them.

^ Yeah, I especially liked to see Kristy and Dawn say nice things about each other. In one of the chapter two's, I remember Kristy saying something about Dawn, then adding 'and that's what we love about her', which made me smile Maybe why I'm like this is because of the fact that all my best friends knew each other a while before they knew me, and it's nice to think that just because you knew someone a shorter time than someone else, you can still consider them just as good a friend.
