Haha, I was just thinking about Jessi's Gold Medal and how Jessi learning to synchronize swim was such an integral part of the series. Learning how to synchronize swim is a symbol for Jessi getting her period, because they were not allowed to mention it in the series. Very pivotal moment in BSC history.

I have to disagree with a few of yours, Kylie, if only because they introduce recurring characters. Jessi and the Superbrat introduces Derek Masters, who is basically the focus of this book, and I think later books with him in would seem very choppy if Superbrat was removed. Same with Kristy and the Secret of Susan, where we meet the Hobarts and get some development with them getting teased but eventually making friends. I think there would be more "What? When did that happen?" in later books where it references them having been teased.
On the other hand, even though Danielle-the-kid-with-cancer is introduced in Jessi's Wish, I don't think the series would be noticeably affected by its removal.
Funny when I look over your list though how many of those titles are so unremarkable I have to think for a minute to remember what happens in them to even decide if I'd notice their absence.

Mmm... I agree they are debateable. Arguably, almost all the minor characters mentioned in some books come back later, even if only for a teeny bit.
And about Mystery Admirer... I don't know what I was thinking Greer, you're right about the Bart + Kristy aspect.

A bit OT, but that's sort of how I felt with some things that were mentioned in the LS books and not in the BSC books...like the Delaneys moving away. I don't read the LS books and I wondered why it was never explained. I found out later that it was mentioned in a LS book. I didn't like that at all. So I see where you're coming from.

^one of the worst examples of that is Boo-boo/Pumpkin. I remember first reading about Boo-boo dying and Pumpkin living in the Big House and being like... huh? Did I miss a book?

That's a good point too. I haven't read many of the later books yet, and I think it mostly happens there.

Super Special # 4 Baby-sitters' Island Adventure. Was it really necessary? It got a mention in Jessi's Babysitter and Mary Anne vs. Logan but for some reason, in the super special Babysitters Club Friends Forever, Everything Changes, Claudia e-mails to Stacey that she's never been on a desert island. A ghostwriter can't be blamed since Ann wrote both books.

Maybe that was a case of FF trying to "break" from BSC, and being so different in that baby-sitting doesn't factor in at all in the series. Or that this book was published like, a decade after Island Adventure and Ann just forgot. Those aren't really excuses though, because good editing/continuity is still important, especially to the long-time fans.

I would say most of the super specials weren't necessary to the series. The one exception would be Baby-Sitters Remember because that gave us some back story on everyone.

^ I agree. If anything, ss1, 2 and 3 were quite irrelevent.

Jessi's Horrible Prank. A bunch of 6th grade kids traumatising a hopeless teacher and Jessi accepting to play him in the follies even though she felt strongly against it for no reason other than "I want these people to like me, being black I have to work so much harder for them to like me, I better do what they want.." Added much to the series itself.
The one thing I do like about this book is the BSC follies, very cute and shows Becca coming out of her shell to manage to think it up and organise it with the other children.

^If you leave out Hello, Mallory don't you kinda remove Mallory from the series? Or was that the point of your choice? ;D
