Heh, this one ought to be more fun than the "most flattering" post...
What's with Jessi's jeans on "Jessi and the Superbrat"?!

Never mind the jeans, what's with the ridiculous expression?! And what almost looks like an adam's apple!
Also, why does Jessi look like a man on the cover of Winter Vacation?
Mary Anne often gets the short end of the stick on the covers. Nice bowl cut on the cover of her Portrait Book. She looks like a total dork on the original cover of Mary Anne and Too Many Boys (don't get me started on Alex!) and she looks like she could be Jake's mother on the cover of Mary Anne breaks the rules.

/\Mary Anne's teeth on the cover of her portrait book freak me out. They are so huge and white that they look like dentures.
Mallory looks like a troll on the cover of Dawn and the Disappearing Dogs.
Dawn looks evil on the original cover of Dawn Saves the Planet.

Ha! Word on Mary Anne's teeth. Logan used to gush over Mary Anne's smile in his books, but I think they went overboard with the perfect teeth thing. Then the Mary Anne kid on the cover of Everything Changes has... well, teeth like an average 13 yr old.
Speaking of which, I didn't particularly like the photographs on the Friends Forever series... the girls were cute enough, I suppose. But having actual people on the cover was just not the BSC I'd grown up with.

Dawn has really scary eyebrows on Dawn Saves The Planet!
Yeah, I agree about the FF series - I didn't really like the fact they used real people. And Claudia didn't look at all like I pictured her. I got used to Mary Anne (she grew her hair long again!), Kristy and Stacey... But the Claudia never grew on me.

Oh! I didn't like Stacey on the cover of Truth About Stacey, she looked way too old and kind of... chubby? Charlotte looked adorable though.
Also, on the original cover of Phantom Phone Calls, why didn't Claudia look remotely Asian?

The Friends Forever covers bugged me too! I was all, this is not the BSC I grew up with. I missed the block letter logo, the listing of officers on the back, the whole deal.

Yeah, I'm not fond of any books with real people on the cover. Isn't the whole point that you can imagine them for yourselves? At least with illustrations, you can just think of them as just approximations.
For those of you not in the US, I was wondering...the back of the books usually said something like "America's favorite girls" - did your copies have that?

Yeah, the original BSC covers had real character, originality, etc. The Friend's Forever covers just looked like every other run-of-the-mill tween series out there.
I wasn't even too impressed with the "new" BSC covers, with the girls' faces down the side and the sparkly/neon backgrounds. They should have stuck with the originals.
ETA - yeah, our books usually had America's Favorite Girls! on the back. I hated it when they used to edit certain words earlier in the series. My copy of Boy-Crazy Stacey, for instance, has the boardwalk referred to as the "pier" and the characters say MUM instead of MOM, which just looks so wrong. You can tell where words have been edited as well, the type looks slightly different.
The worst example is my copy of Ghost at Dawn's House, where the changes have been made in Times New Roman. It looks SO obvious and stupid!! They don't even have the girls' handwriting in notebook entries, it's just italics Times New Roman. You can't tell who wrote the entry without referring to the chapter. Sucks!

I think Island Adventure has to be the worst SS cover, seriously. Although, Claudia has pretty chunky looking legs in Summer Vacation.

Kristy looks terrible on the cover of Island Adventure! Really scrawny or something - plus it took me years to realise that the hand at her chest was actually Claudia's!
There is a picture inside that book of Stacey in the car with her mum, a reporter has a microphone at the window and Stacey looks borderline retarded!

In the illustration where they meet the mayor, Mallory looks pretty bad and Claudia's way too short.

I usually don't even look at the covers but Island Adventure caught my eye this morning and it is hideous! They all look dorky. I would rather imagine the way the characters look than look at the illustrators' versions.
