daddy stew at the pikes' house... some weird hot dog concoction that all pikes love ^ And didn't they cook a lot of hot dogs for the kids because it was easy to make or something? And yeah, I've noticed the peanut butter thing too. I've heard that it helps you with your memory. I might have made this up but didn't one of the Pikes love ketchup sandwich or something?

Casa Grande! There was Pizza Express and Burger Town in Stoneybrook, though, so I'd say the fast food places were well and truly alive.
mcpon, I don't remember the ketchup sandwich... They liked the orange sauce from Burger Garden in Sea City, where they mix the mustard and ketchup.

I think mcpon meant that Stoneybrook didn't seem to have any of the huge fast food chains - there were rarely any mentions of McDonalds, KFC etc. But they did have Renwicks, Rosebud Cafe etc, where they seemed to order burgers and fries.

But there aren't really any mentions of real brands and stuff, are there? Oh, except for the junk food Claudia eats... That shoots down my product placement theory!

All of the restaurants Stacey goes to in New York! The Russian Tea Room and Sign of the Dove are closed now, but I forced my parents to take me to the Oyster Bar in Grand Central when I was still reading BSC books.

Atichock (?)- Why would anyone want to eat this appalling looking thing. It looks like a green pine cone.

Casa Grande! There was Pizza Express and Burger Town in Stoneybrook Wasn't there a Burger Bite as well? I seem to remember Travis taking Dawn there, and she was afraid to tell him she didn't eat meat when he ordered for her.

I agree. Currently my fav thread.
I have always loved reading the food in the books. From the food the girls made themselves (thinking of Dawn's Big Date with Mary Anne's and Dawn's contest...pigs in a blanket and mini pizzas vs. all natural peanut butter logs and soybean pie) to the junk food Claudia had in her room.
More gross food mentioned in the BSC world... ...wasn't Claudia's fav sandwich peanut butter, bananas and mayonnaise??? Talk about ewww. ...the vegetable fritters Dawn had at a carnival in Dawn on the Coast? They sound disgusting. ...the dinner the girls have on Shadow Island in SS 8. The combination always grossed me out--baked beans, s'mores, watermelon, potato chips
Some of my favorite food mentions... ...that kick butt salad Mary Anne, Dawn and Richard had in Mary Anne and the Great Romance--lettuce, carrots, red and green peppers, cucumbers, hard boiled eggs, sundried tomatoes, olives, mushrooms, celery--YUM! ...the dinner Logan made Mary Anne for Valentine's Day in Mary Anne vs. Logan--lasagna, salad, broccoli with some sauce and chocolate cake ...the Chinese food mentioned in Kristy's Great Idea--chicken with cashews, Moo Shoo pork, beef with snow peas ...the healthy food Dawn was surrounded by in Dawn on the Coast--cheese and egg puffs, fresh melon slices for breakfast, avocado salad and potato salad for lunch at the beach, and chicken enchilidas for Dawn's last dinner in CA. ...AND THE BEST FOOD mentioned in the BSC, the food in Dawn and Whitney Friends Forever--the food they have at the restaurant with the bitchy date and the food they have at the dinner picnic with the ewwing-at-the-girl-with-Downs date.

Oh, ilovethe80s, WORDWORDWORD to the best food mentioned. The food at seafood restaurant with the bitchy date, and that gorgeous picnic dinner at the outdoor concert thing. They were brilliant.
Okay, food related question: is pizza EVER healthy? I mean, yeah, you can get a thin crust and pizzas that aren't so oily or whatever, but seriously, is Dawn wanting broccoli on her share showing how health conscious she is? I imagined any pizza from the fast food places in Stoneybrook to be greasy, fatty things, broccoli or not. I didn't picture them having gourmet thin crusts.

OMG, I can't believe I forgot -- bagels with lox! My parents ate them, and I thought they were disgusting until I read Stacey's Mistake. Of course, now, I can't last three days without one. Thanks for the seven extra pounds, Stace.
ETA: I mentioned an $8.99 jar of cashew butter in the Dawn and the We <3 Kids Club thread -- whenever I find myself in a Whole Foods-type froufrou natural foods store, I ALWAYS see some overpriced crap Dawn ate that they never had in the normal grocery stores when I was little. Can you believe I actually asked my parents to bring home bulgur wheat and alfalfa sprouts?!

Ahhh, The Russian Tea Room is closed? I always wanted to go there because I used to be obsessed with the movie, Tootsie.
Burger Bite was only mentioned in that one book. It didn't even make the Complete Guide.
There are three ice cream parlors in Stoneybrook, as well as a donut shop. Those Stoneybrookites like their sweets. As well as their pizza and chinese food.

Can you believe I actually asked my parents to bring home bulgur wheat and alfalfa sprouts?! LOL, Dawn would have been so proud of you, she was always pusing that health food onto everyone...I think you're the only one who's taken up on it Did Stacey say at some point something about pretzel's having some sort of healing power, or was that something else I read.

Claudia would provide saltine crackers for Dawn and Stacey. They aren't healthy, they're just bland empty calories with lots of sodium. I'm surprised Dawn would eat them.
I always want to run to Subway when I read the last few chapters of Poor Mallory. Those sandwiches her dad brought home sounded yummy.

She gives them wheat crackers a lot too.
What about the cafeteria hot lunches that Kristy always uses to gross out Mary Anne? Rubber and gym socks and the like.

Burger Garden (or Gurber Garden) in Sea City! Where you pick chocolate bars off a tree and if one has a Golden Ticket like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory you win something. And how the Crazy Burgers are crazy because the ketchup and mustard are mixed together to make an orange sauce.
