Now, now, Tempora, not everyone has given up entirely on records! LOL, we have a large collection inherited from my DH's grandmother- mostly classical music, some other miscellany. We play them plenty.

^^Not to mention DJs using LPs to scratch in clubs. But during the course of the series, they did go from tapes to CDs. The sitters would probably be using MP3 players by now. And Nexflixing instead of going to the video store.

LPs are definitely a niche thing. But there's a difference in the sound, too. I've heard Sgt. Pepper on both CD and LP, and boy, the LP sounds so much better!

My boyfriend and I have an awful lot of records considering that we don't have a record player.

I used to be a huge record collector in high school. And my bff is really into it now and spends a ton of money on it.

Wanderingfrog, it's not difficult to find a player. A lot of places sell units that have record, cd, radio, and even cassette in one. (That's what we have.)

When I snarked Little Miss Stoneybrook...and Dawn on the LJ snark community, someone mentioned how the book is incredibly dated because when Jeff is going back to CA, Sharon and Dawn walk him to the gate, and you're not allowed to do that anymore.

I think of that almost every time I go to the airport. They wait at the gate in Snowbound as well. And remember when Jeff had a "super-special jackknife" in his pocket? Yeah, that would not go over well today.

It will seem strange to our children to imagine a time that you could do that (and come to the gate to meet a flight), as much as it seems strange to us to imagine walking out on the tarmac for every flight. (Small puddle-hopper flights still do that, some.)

Actually, I often have to walk out on the tarmac. Perhaps it's more common in Europe than here, but I've done it many times for international flights. Well, technically they send a bus, but it's still on the tarmac and you walk on the steps to the plane. Maybe they rarely do it in America for liability reasons.

I've done that in Houston for the puddle-jump to Killeen/Ft. Hood a number of times. It's a nuisance, at least with a small child in tow.

I was reading Jessi's Big Break today and she says that she thinks Aunt Cecelia thinks that her son, Michael, should become the first African-American President. Already happened. ;D

I've had to walk out on the tarmac too. But that happens more with smaller, regional flights in the US, it seems.

On the whole record/tape player topic, my fiance and I still have records, even though we don't have a record player at the moment, but we like to collect them.

I don't think I've ever personally owned a record. I think my mom had a few, though, back in the day.
