Collecting records is a really fun hobby, actually. I used to dream of being like John Cusack in High Fidelity and having a large library of records. It's fun to comb through used records and find a real gem hidden among the crap.

High Fidelity is one of my favorite movies ever. I can totally relate to his making top five lists.

I'm not big on top 5 lists, but I never get tired of that movie. And it totally is "what you like, not what you're like" that counts.

My mom has a record... it's classic... Jane Fonda Pregnancy Aereobics... no lie... it's got a stellar cover, leg warmers, big hair... the whole shebang

I remember listening to records. We had a lot of little records which were like a single cassette tape (one hit song and a not so popular song on it). I used to listen to Eye of the Tiger and The Goonies R Good Enough (the theme song from The Goonies that Cyndi Lauper sang) all the time.

^I love that Cyndi Lauper song. I used to have a 45 of John Travolta singing Sandy from Grease.

I think just the lack of computers/internet is what really makes it stand out that the BSC is from a different era.

^ When I saw them use e-mail in The All-New Mallory Pike, I almost fell over.

Didn't Mallory and Ben get into a fight over the card catalog once? I was trying to remember which book that was in when I realized that old-fashioned card catalogs are also a thing of the past.

I think that was in Stacey's Ex-Best Friend.

This may be a small thing, but the rpg jolted me.
Tower Records (which has a store in Washington Mall) no longer exists as a brick and mortar store as of 2006.

I almost fell over too when I heard them using email in a BSC book. Even though I knew they were trying to be up to date towards the end, I prefer the old BSC books with the lack of internet, using the card catalog. etc. It just makes me feel like a kid again.

I noticed that if you join the BSC Fan Club, one of the things you get is a 110 camera. I went to three different stores looking for 110 film for my nephew's Christmas present, and I can't find it. Just 35mm and Polaroid. I don't know if they sell it in the U.S. anymore. And these days, the fan club would offer a cheap digital camera anyway.

^I read awhile ago that they're going to stop making Polaroid film soon. There were a lot of mentions of Polaroids in BSC.

The polaroid brand will stop making the film, but I believe they're licensing out the technology to other companies.
