Has anyone else noticed that none of the girls are ever sitting during meeting times. I find it a bit strange no one has a sitting job on a monday, wednesday or friday between 5.30 and 6?
They just never seemed to say "everyone is here except ... who is sitting for ... this afternoon." The only exception I can think of is "Stacey McGill, Super Sitter" Where Stacey comes a little late to meetings due to her job at the Cheplins.
I haven't read every book in the series by any means, so I could be wrong but in every book I've read I've not noticed this.

There are a lot of things in the BSC books that only occur to me as being really strange now that I'm an adult, but I always thought that this was highly unrealistic, even when I was seven. Seriously, in a town where people hire baby-sitters every time they run to the store, what are the odds that NO ONE would ever need a baby-sitter between 5:30 and 6:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays? Although there were a few occasions where sitters were late to meetings because they had sitting jobs, this was extremely infrequent. I guess there must have been rare occasions where a sitter missed an entire meeting because she had a sitting job, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I know of one. I can't remember the book. I think it was either Stacey or Mary Anne narrating and they missed a meeting because they were sitting for the Braddocks.

^ I've never read that one. I don't think I can even think of a BSC book in which the girls where late for a meeting due to their babysitting. It's like the parents plan everything before 5.30 or after 6.00 on monday, wednesday and friday so the girls can go to their meeting. Was it really that important? On other days the girls do sit between 5.30 and 6.00. it's just so weird.

In Maid Mary Anne both MA and Kristy take jobs that interfere with meeting days and times.

Yeah I was thinking it was Maid Mary Anne but I wasn't sure. And I was too lazy to get my copy out and check.

This has ALWAYS seemed odd to me, even when I was little. I remember about three books in which a sitting job interfered with a meeting. Pretty weird odds. Considering the girls were apparently so busy and simply overrun with jobs, how strange that all seven would consistently be free during the 5.30-6.00 half-hour three times a week.

I guess their clients never work late and are very considerate of their meeting times. Dawn probably threatened them all because she didn't want to do extra work if someone was absent.

They actually mention how it would be more convenient for their clients if they met on Thursdays instead of Fridays, since the parents might actually want to go out for dinner on a Friday night.

I remember in a Stacey book....it might have been "Stacey vs. the BSC".....where the parent got back later than planned so she just went home instead of going to the rest of the meeting.

I always thought this was weird too. There was one book where Kristy bitched someone out (jessi?) for being late to a meeting due to a sitting job when the parents came home late.

Since the town seems to rely solely on the BSC for childcare, do their meeting times determine when social activities take place. If Mr Newton suggests going out for dinner on a Friday night, does Mrs Newton refuse, explaining that it would interfere with the BSC's meeting? Ugh, Kristy always seemed to b*tch out Jessi for being late

Well, childcare in Stoneybrook did seem pretty shoddy pre-BSC. Look at the members themselves. Kristy had none, and Mary Anne went through crappy sitters like tissues (and knowing Mary Anne, she probably goes through a box every commercial break on tv). The parents must have loved having "reliable" sitters who never turn down a job. I bet they're the ones who instituted the time warp, so their favorite sitters didn't grow up and get lives. Look what happened once they stopped. Bye bye BSC.
