for me it was when Dawn stole her father's credit card and flew back to Stoneybrook. I second that. It's one thing to use your dad's credit card to order clothes, but to go to the other side of the country? Yeah.

I think it would be pretty shocking even if she used his credit card to order clothes, if she was doing it without his permission. But obviously it's more shocking to use it to fly across the country.

Mary Anne growing a backbone and telling off everyone in Mary Anne Saves the Day!
Oh, and I just re-read Kristy and the Mother's Day Surprise, and I was shocked when Watson and Elizabeth announced out of NOWHERE that they were adopting Emily Michelle. Like they were getting a puppy. "Hey, you're getting a new sister, we're picking her up tomorrow! Have fun!" You'd think for something so important, especially for the younger kids, who'd have to have time to take in the fact that they would be getting a new sibling, they'd let them know about it instead of being coy and dropping vague hints? Seriously, Andrew was annoying in those chapters, but very realistic! "Why are we getting her? Do her mommy and daddy not want her anymore? Does she have a mommy and daddy?" Didn't Watson and Elizabeth think they would have to explain this stuff in advance to Andrew and the other little kids? That was very shocking to me.

That is startling, definitely. A four-year-old (who isn't adopted himself) isn't going to understand the concept right off the bat.

I agree with everyone that posted Dawn stealing her father's credit card and flew back to Stoneybrook. I would have thought that she would just accept the engagement or do something not as shocking.

There's a few for me. Dawn's trip across the country, MA blowing Richard's cash for gifts; Claudia moving back to the seventh grad; Mallory deciding to leave for Riverband, Kristy making out with Bart, and Stacey leaving the club. Not regular series: when the club is reformatted in the friends forever books and Kristy's reaction is currently fresh in my mind.

When Kristy didn't blow up in FF Everything Changes when everyone suggest to scale back. I would've thought she wanted everything to remain the same and argued with everyone about not changing anything.

Claudia moving back to the seventh grad actually i more or less expected that :] i have to agree with everyone who said dawn stealing the credit card was the most shocking. for me it's because she had so many chances to change her mind -- she had to skip class, write the note, steal the credit card, take a really long cab ride, wait for her flight, and then actually fly cross country -- and she only started having doubts on the flight. she had so many opportunities to snap out of it and she didn't. she was so unreasonable. MA using the credit card wasn't very shocking because she had permission, and the TB's announcing the adoption wasn't too shocking because they had been hinting the whole book that they wanted another kid. the way the went about it was lame, but i can't say it was more shocking than dawn.

I don't think it was shocking that Dawn attempted her cross country trip, but the fact that she executed the whole thing so smoothly was unbelievable.
