We all know that the BSC ended its 15 years of success when Mary Anne's house burnt down and the sitters disbanded. But if that hadn't happened -- what plots would you have liked to see? What stories do you think would occur? Would Mary Anne and Logan break up and get back together? Or would she finally find the love of her life: Pete Black? Would Kristy see that she is destined to lose her virginity to Alan Grey? And would Stacey's mom find love again?
Speculate away.
1.) I would have liked to have seen Mary Anne branch out beyond the BSC and Logan. Maybe have another break-up arc, where she dates someone else.
2.) I would like to see Stacey or Claudia pressured into something with a boy. Just some mild touching or groping, along with some discussion about how far is too far.
3.) I think I would like to read about another new sitter -- but one with something radically different about her. Maybe a muslim in a post 9/11 world, and how her family actually faced discrimination.
4.) Karen falling in love with Harry Potter and trying to fly on a broomstick.

Maybe a muslim in a post 9/11 world, and how her family actually faced discrimination. Agree. I like Abby, the last sitter introduced in the series, very much, but there wasn't really anything radically different about her. She was really much like Kristy, she had lost a parent like Mary Anne, ect...A muslim in post 9/11-word would have been interesting. I wonder if there had been any 9/11-related storylines - like, how would Stacey have reacted, or something. And Stacey's mom shouldn't have found love again. I don't exactly know how common remarriage really is, but it seemed weird how everyone seemed to remarry really, really fast.

I actually wouldn't want the books to change at all. I think that's why I like them is because they remind me of the past - a time that was good for me (I realize it wasn't good for everyone but it was for me and brings back fond memories ;D) The constancy/unchanging nature of the BSC is what I like so much about it, I think. There are a few things I wish would have been mentioned and included in the books but not major changes or aging or modern issues. I read the BSC for an escape from the negative present. ;D

^What do you want to be mentioned? You know, I'm starting to figure out why the series was cancelled. There really aren't that many more plots left. I want to see a super special where they go to Tokyo. What's another trip -- it's not as if they haven't spent months of 8th grade on vacation..

I would have loved to see a plot concerning a new family with a parent in the military, or a new sitter in that situation. Even around the time that Desert Storm was going on, none of the books dealt with it, which I thought was slightly bizarre. Maybe Ann didn't care so much? Especially now, I think a military family plot would be widely accepted. The Pike kids would be encouraged to start a letter writing campaign, and Kristy would organize...something.

Yeah I agree that a military family plot would be widely accepted now.

I want to say there was a fanfic where the sitters went to Tokyo...does that sound familiar to anyone else or did I just make it up?

I would like more development of the existing relationships - especially different friend combos with the girls in the club and more interaction between them and their parents and between each other's parents. Also bringing back some of the once-used clients, more use of underused clients and more vacations would be nice, too. ;D I wouldn't mind a few more US vacations. International ones either. ;D A military family might be interesting but only if it was set in the past because like I said, I read the BSC for nostalgia of a time that was better in my life. ;D

I know this sounds terrible, but I would have liked to have seen the girls have to deal with a serious illness or injury - I know Claudia broke a leg, Mal had mono, Abby had asthma, but I would have liked to have seen them deal with something serious - one of them having a terrible accent, or developing a life threatning disease.

Well Stacey had diabetes... particularly early in the series, she was the token 'ill' character.

True, true, but something life threatning. I know diabetes can be, but while she was ill in 'Stacy's Emergency,' I don't think it was life threatning. Something that couldn't just be solved by friends rallying around.

Totally agree. Any combos except for the best friend pairs would be great. Especially Mallory and Jessi with someone else besides each other.

But I would like to see Stacey's mom date and have a life. It would be a nice way to show that adults are people too, sometimes it seems like they aren't in the BSC.
