I really like Lerangis too. I think he's funny, even if he is dorky. They are way more sassy!

Lerangis wasn't too bad...at least with him writing lots of them it made them a bit better with the contuniality. There was one I read recently around number 50ish, and I thought the ghost-writed was brilliant, but I don't which one if was now.

Does each ghostwriter have their own style? I never could tell.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I actually like the babysitting, the kids are so entertaing, and its nice to have a bit of a break from the orginal storyline.

For me some stories stood out more than others. I think I liked the books where the kids were bitchy little people and tormented the BSC. I enjoyed the Norman Hill story (Enormous Hill, oh jesus, I know I shouldn't laugh but...) because there was some actual DRAMA and a relatively happy ending. I enjoyed Lou as well, though I never read her second book. A lot of the regulars just bored me. I wasn't too fond of Charlotte. I know she was supposed to be shy, but to be honest she came across to me as babyish. So I skipped over her a bit.

Before I visited these boards it never crossed my mind to skip anything! I didn't even skip chapter two's!! Now I do and I sometimes skip the babysitting, too. I hate random babysitting chapters.

I would read the babysitting chapters, but sometimes would get annoyed at the randomness of them. They also gave me a false idea of what babysitting would be like. The first few times I ever babysat, I thought I just HAD to have some fun activity planned. That ended when half the kids just wanted to watch TV the entire time.

The only babysitting chapters I remember skipping were the CA Dawn chapters in Mary Anne and the Memory Garden. At least the chapters usually somehow relate to the plot of the girls, but these were totally random and ruined MAs storyline for me!

^I hated Cute Little Stephie and her Cute Big Gloves and how they convinced that dude to give up his land. If I were him, I would have stepped on Dawn's flowers and told her to shove it.

I always skip that plot as well whenever I read Memory Garden, but I consider that more of a California plot, the same way I skip everything that's not taking place where the main action of the book is. Like I skip the crap with Mal and Jessi working at the day camp in "Stacey's Lie" or the Stoneybrook chapters in "Aloha, Baby-Sitters". The one I always skip the sitting stuff in is "Claudia and the Little Liar". I love the storyline with Claudia and Josh, I'm a huge Josh fan, and I think the book should've just been called "Claudia and Josh, Friends Forever" or some crap like that and had the Haley thing as the subplot. I basically read every other chapter of that book and it's one of my favorites because of reading it that way, I only read the good stuff and it's a great book. And Josh is so gay but that has nothing to do with this thread.

I don't normally skip the babysitting chapters, but the last time I read California Girls I remember skipping Kristy and Mary Anne's babysitting. I get really annoyed when they babysit in the Super Specials. I mean, they're on vacation for heaven's sake!

Maybe that's how they like to relax. Besides I don't think any of them can turn down a sitting job.

That's the number one reason I enjoyed the Friends Forever portion of the series. Yes, the plots were subpar and silly compared to ones of the past, but we weren't bogged down with the babysitting chapters. In the old books, I'd read them the first time that I had the book and then after that they got skipped. Always.

Oh I hate when they babysit in CA Girls! All of the CA charges are really annoying. Stephie is OKAY but she seems so whiney and just blah to me. Ryan and Eric are insufferable. Can't stand them.
