Actually it was the Kormans that moved into the Delaney's house and, yeah, they were normal and down-to-earth.

The Kormans were normal enough that they didn't use the big fountain in their house because it freaked the baby out. Somehow I think Mrs. Delaney would have kept that thing running even if it traumatized one of her kids.
I'm surprised more of the rich side of town didn't have swimming pools. In Poor Mallory it sounded like only the Delaneys and one other family on the block did.

Oh yeah the Korman's... should've known that, they always make a point to say that the fountain scared Skylar. I knew the Hill's didn't sound right!
That is weird about the pools! Especially considering that in Jessi's Gold Medal, Jessi wants the Ramsey's to get a pool, which would be REALLY weird if even the RICHRICHRICH families don't have them!

Or when Dawn had to pay her dad back for her spur-of-the-moment ticket to CT. I know THAT had to be expensive. I always figured he let it go, because theres no way she made enough money babysitting to pay for a plane ticket. If I were Dawn's dad, I sure as hell would not let that go. She stole his credit card and used it to fly across the country! (Um, I mean she used it to buy a plane ticket so she could fly across the country. I am now picturing Dawn flying through the air on a giant Mastercard.) I would make her pay that back. I also want to say that I would ground her for a veeeeery long time, but what with all the bicoastalness in the books at that point in time, I'm not exactly sure how long she's living with her dad before she goes back to CT (although I do know that she only spends four books there before moving back to CA for good).

Yeah, it was really weird that it wasn't really mentioned again. It could definitely be in the running for one of the most major immoral things a bsc member did, and she was barely punished for it.

Yeah, it was really weird that it wasn't really mentioned again. It could definitely be in the running for one of the most major immoral things a bsc member did, and she was barely punished for it. Dibbly weird, that's for sure. And definitely the most outrageous behavior perpetrated by a 'mature and responsible' BSC member. But at the end of the day, what really could've been done about it? I don't know how expensive plane tickets are in the US, but considering Dawn flew to Connecticut and then back to California, IIRC her parents were going to make her cover both plane tickets. That'd be like, ten yrs of babysitting money!

Not only did they seem to forget the cost of the tickets, her dad and Carol gave her an anytime pass to Cali when she moved back to CT. I always kind of suspected Mr. Schafer had some $$.

Dawn also went to private school in CA.
Yeah, the tickets must have been extraordinarily expensive, since she bought them only a couple of hours before takeoff.

^^ For real we're talking over $1000 for each trip easily. Maybe 700 or 800 at the least (this is BSC Land where airfare, hotel fees and food in Europe is $400). And Mr. S paid for BOTH tickets. Their house in CA always sounded sort of fancy to me, and there are some other things that made him sound a little loaded that I can't remember right now. Although, on the flip side, his wedding to Carol probably didn't cost much. Just the food and band at the reception. They certainly weren't OMG RICH like Kristy, Maggie or Laine, but Mr. Schafer was making some good dough. Or just had REALLY amazing credit.

In addition, Mr. Schafer had a full-time housekeeper. That's really expensive as well.

Mr. Schafer's house DID always seem really nice, Dawn talks about how it was so open and there were skylights everywhere and that's why she loved being there. Do they ever mention what he does for a living?
I would've made Dawn pay back the ticket as well. Even reading that book at 23, I'm shocked that she does that! It is so not very BSC-like of her. The BSC-like thing would've been to maybe get to the airport then realize what she was doing and try to return the ticket.

I know he mentions in bsc in the usa that he makes his own hours and stuff. Plus didn't sharon's parents want her to marry someone with money? He probably came from money then.

Well, the Ramseys never seemed rich to me. Jessi's ballet lessons and dance room in the basement were probably expensive, but a price you'd pay for a kid with talent. They had enough money to support Aunt Cecelia though, and when jessi thought Aunt C was moving out she figured they'd be getting a new nanny.
Mr. Pike probably made some good money, but with 8 kids you'd have to. Although Mrs. Pike did only have to do temp work.
The Spiers never came off as rich, but I think Richard was probably just a penny pincher. I could see him having a lot in savings and investments, and having a pretty good college fund for MA. He does shell out some $$ in "Mary Anne's Makeover" getting her a haircut and all those new clothes (including some from Steven E, the most expensive store in the mall). I dont think Sharon could've made that much money though considering she got the farmhouse because it was cheap and she never pays for Dawn's tickets home. Must not've gotten any alimony in the divorce settlement or something...
I dont know if I've mentioned this before but shouldn't the Johannsens been living in the ritzy side of Stoneybrook? Maybe they were just modest but I would think a Doctor and an Engineer would be pretty well off.
