It's like that in most of Europe too, or at least the places where I've been. I'm an animal person, but I'm also a very clean person, and I don't find that having animals around food is any more unhygienic than having another person around food. I'm kind of relaxed like that. This is one of those topics where I know aln would disagree with me, lol.

^ It's the same in Australia. Guide dogs can go wherever the owner needs to go. Whenever I see a guide dog I have to constantly remember not do pat it (doesn't patting it, etc, interfere with their job performance? I don't know) because they are so cute.

I agree. Whether I read a carefree book or a serious issue book depends on what my mood is.

i don't really care for those books. when it comes to the censorship/drunk driving/retardation/etc books, it feels like the books are talking down to me. some of the less political serious books (like the terrible truth) were actually pretty good, but i still don't like the preachy-ness.

I feel like the serious books generally weren't done very well. The topics were skimmed over in a way that they were introducing things to younger readers without actually having to teach them anything.

I much prefer the carefree books but not the "fight" centered ones. I think a lot of the "serious" issue books had more blather filler (MA and the Memory Garden with the Dawn subplot) as an example, that detracted from the main story. These books might also have been better had they not only lasted one book!

Exactly. But also, dismissing or perhaps "forgetting" such a problem/event had ever happened (probably in order to maintian the time warp) sort of minimized the situation and said in a way "why did the ghostie bother with it in the first place?" Kristy took a stand, organized the SMS chapter of SADD. Other than a mention of Amelia as Barbara's best friend in Stacey's Secret Friend, did we ever hear of Amelia again or SADD?
There is way too much "real" tragedy out there in the world. I don't care to write or read about such, and certainly not as enjoyment or pure escape as is the BSC. All I'm suggesting is that some of the "resolutions" been more thought out.
