my unpopular opinions are: I didn't really mind the countless Wizards of Oz and I Love Lucy references. I mean, yeah, they've might've been TOO much, and it's unrealistic that the BSC who are in MIDDLE SCHOOL and ELEMENTARY SCHOOL children actually watches I Love Lucy. Wizards of Oz is a terrific movie and I actually watched a few I Love Lucy episodes with my grandparents so yeah despite how many there were, I was never annoyed by those references. I always thought that Claudia being Asian wasn't as pointed out and exaggerated as Jessi being black. In the chapter twos, the sitters says things like "I'm sorry to be blunt, but Jessi is black" and "I'm going to be straightforward-and I'm usually not-but Jessi is black" while for Claudia they just say that she's Japanese or Japanese-American. Also, it would've been nice to read about Claudia encountering racism like Jessi did (other than Keep Out, Claudia). I actually like Jessi. Well, her CHARACTER, anyways. Her BOOKS are real doozies. I think she's a really nice girl and a good friend not only to Mal but to everyone (and she never started a fight, I believe). Her ballet is interesting though it is unrealistic that she gets the leading role in EVERY SINGLE PLAY, but whatever. Plus her family seems really nice and friendly and the most involved out of all the BSC families besides the Kishi's. I don't think the old time shows reference is TOO much because I am a 90s kid and Nickelodeon used to "Nick at Nite" where they used to show all the old shows like Jeanie, Munsters, Lucy, Welcome back Cotter, The lady who could turn an oven on with her smile (I can't remember that show!) and I THINK Bewitched was there too?! So I could see kids perhaps watching those when their cartoons aren't being aired. If i can remember right, I think that channel kid stuff until 2pm and then at 5pm it would switch to the old classic black and whites. so I could totally see some of these BSC kiddos being introduced to these black and whites and it not being so out of place if I may defend "The Oddity" of it. XD

I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but I’m reading Mary Anne and too many babies book and I don’t like Logan as much. I kind of found him uninteresting as a kid but he’s like really controlling in that.
I’m starting to like him less then I already did lol.

I find Claudia's parents' attitude toward her having junk food and even POPCORN to be kind of hypocritical considering NONE of their meals are ideal for anyone who's a health food nut, plus they're coffee addicts and that doesn't do one's health any favors any more than refined sugar or salt does.

I wished that Kristy and her family would have stayed in Bradford Court for at least a few more books. The closeness of the girls seemed to end away a bit when she moved away.

I don’t know if this unpopular but I really wish that Tiffany Kilbourne had joined the bsc as junior member. Like before the ghost writers she was an actual sitter. It would have been interesting to see a regular SDS student as a member. Plus probably more jobs from that end of town. Sounds like a bit of a wasted opportunity to me.

Yeah, the Kilbourne sisters were interesting. Plus they already had sitting experience, I think mentioned in Snobs.

I don't think it's creepy when Lerangis writes about girls having crushes on boys or even men, I also likewise don't think it's creepy when female writers write about boys having crushes. Attractions are a part of growing up and can also be a part of kids' literature.

I didn't think Karen meant anything hurtful by inviting Shannon, Hannie, Linny, the Delaney kids and Shannon's friends to Louie..first of all, why shouldn't she invite her best friend? Secondly, while Amanda and Max may have been snobby, they're not BLACKHEARTED. Same with Shannon. She might have had friendly interactions with her. Not to mention how was she to know about the bad blood between Kristy and her previously? She would have had to be a mind-reader to know that or Kristy would have had to tell her.

I like Abby and I don't see her as a lesbian like so many do. In fact she comes off to me as very anti-romance. I also like Karen Brewer, Mallory Pike, and the Friends Forever books.
I do not like the idea of a "next generation" of the BSC. I can't see many of the clients baby-sitting when they're teenagers.
I don't see Stacey as a sl*t nor Kristy as a lesbian.
Around page 12 ish in this thread someone mentions Abby having a male twin and now I wish that was a thing.

I'm glad Abby's twin was another girl and it was neat that they were identical with that dark curly hair.
I wish Anna had been at least an associate BSC member...I love both of the Stevenson girls...they were an interesting pair.

^ there’s so many identical female twins in the books, it’d be nice to see a male set of twins or fraternal twins. The only boy girl twins we know of is the bates twins in the little sister series. I would have loved Anna to be a guy, maybe name him Aaron or something.

I would have loved Anna to be a guy, maybe name him Aaron or something. There were the Pike triplets, who were identical boys. Anyway, the BSC series is supposed to be girl-centered, not boy-centered. I like having Anna there for Abby...but it would have been almost as interesting to see a set of girl-boy twins in another set of characters. Maybe have Karen and Andrew be fraternal twins instead of two years apart...that would have been fascinating. Or even have Dawn and Jeff be fraternal twins instead of three years apart. That would have been fun and intriguing!

Anna wasn’t apart if the club anyway so it wouldn’t matter if she was a boy or not. Just because the books are girl centered doesn’t mean they can’t have an equal amount of boys mentioned in the books or not.
I can’t see Karen having a fraternal twin myself. Dawn and Jeff is interesting but then being twins might push her into leaving even sooner. Like half of herself is still in California.

I somehow don't think a boy twin would have been as close to Abby as an identical twin girl...I find it fascinating that they had the exact same faces and coloring, yet styled their hair so differently. I so, so wish Anna had joined the BSC!!! That would have been so lovely... sigh.Even Mary Anne mentions in Mary Anne and the Little Princess that she wishes Anna had joined the club. Just because the books are girl centered doesn’t mean they can’t have an equal amount of boys mentioned in the books or not. Maybe so, but I've seen too many other girl-centered stories have too many boy characters and sometimes the boys take up the interesting roles. Even worse is when all the girls are paired off with boyfriends, which is a trite storyline that the Fabulous Five series fell into. I still think it would have ruined the BSC series to have too many boys. I can’t see Karen having a fraternal twin myself. I can! 😁😁😁 It would have been hilarious to see Karen, her friends and Andrew spy on Ms. Porter all together and speculate the idea of witches and wizards meeting at her house. Dawn and Jeff is interesting but then being twins might push her into leaving even sooner. Like half of herself is still in California. Possibly and yes, it wouldn't be as fun to have Dawn leave too early. But then again, Jeff would have been less willing to leave a twin sister and would have not had so much trouble adjusting to Stoneybrook.
