^ I've got the original! It's downright scary, but fascinating to read the description of Margaret hooking the pad into the pink belt etc. How on earth do they work, does anyone know? The belt goes around your waist and you hook the pad in at both ends? Those things must've been HUGE! I asked my mum years ago, but she'd only ever worn the adhesive ones.
Considering that was the "style at the time", how bizarre that Margaret was so anxiously waiting to opportunity to wear those things. Yuck. And tampons - "not until you're considerably older"... huh?
Yeah, ITA about Judy Blume. Maybe she's sticking to Fudge books because they're less controversial than the teen-girl ones.

Yeah, that's how they work. I did some searching and apparently sales of sanitary belts have tripled in the US in the last five years??? WTF!?
I didn't know they updated it. I kind of don't like it when they do that, but I know I was confused. When I saw pads I was like, where's the freaking belt???

^ I know...I read that book before my mum told me anything about periods and all that, and she asked me hat I already knew about it, and I started rambling about belts and stuff, and she was all WTF?

Off topic, but I really wish Judy Blume would write some more books. I think the last one she did was another dumb sequel to the Fudge books. I wonder if she'll ever do another sequel to Just As Long As We're Together/Here's To You, Rachel Robinson about Alison. I really thought one would be written, especially because the last book kinds of hints at it but it's been awhile so I'm skeptical.

^ Well, there was quite a gap between the first two, so maybe the trend's continuing.
I don't remember much about Here's to You, Rachel Robinson, I remember reading it in eighth grade or something and wondering if Judy actually wrote it. She had a very distinct style in her earlier books and that one didn't have the "Judy" feel to me.

On her website, Judy says:

When was the last time she'd actually updated her website? I remember back around 1998? that it was reported that she'd signed a deal with Disney to start making her books into movies and I was so excited. Guess that must have fell through. She's said that she was disappointed with the Fudge TV series that was made, so maybe she's hesitant to make movies. Ann M. Martin who? Judy Blume kicks ass.

They have an updated version of "Are you there God, it's me Margaret" wow. I shudder to think what that one has in it. I got my period when I was 11 and a half. I hated it. Then again, who loves their period?? I've always been mature for my age, I guess. I've had to wear a bra since the 4th grade (Not fun) and I got my 12 year molars when I was 9. Which makes me wonder- how come it's taking so far for my wisdom teeth to grow in?

They have an updated version of "Are you there God, it's me Margaret" wow. I shudder to think what that one has in it. Oh no, it's not really that different. Margaret just has adhesive pads instead of the belt thing. Margaret did! And so did her friends. Strange.

I wish Judy Blume would write faster. There are such long wait times between her books. I liked Double Fudge. I was worried that it was going to disappoint me, because I was afraid it wouldn't have the same feel as the other Fudge books, but I thought that it did have the same feel to it and I was quite happy with it.

I thought they were going to talking about all sorts of other things, plus your period. I'm relieved to find out that it's just getting the pads with adhesive. I always thought the belts sounded awful. i've never gotten the fascination about the periods in that book. I never did anything like that with my friends, must less have a club or whatever about it.
