I was another early starter. I was 9. I hated it too.

I was early too. I had my first period at ten and started growing breasts even earlier. I hated it! I really think though that it would've been nice if some more childrens book had girls started earlier. In those books girls usually start somewhere between 12-16, making me feel like even more weird :S

I was another early starter. I was 9. I hated it too. It really annoyed me as a 9 year old that i had my period and none of the BSC girls did. I mean...not even Stacey or Claudia? I would have felt a lot better about it.

A mention would have made me feel better too - I was barely 11 (sounds like I was actually lucky) and always got really miserable with cramps, etc. And I started the first time at a horse show with nothing except super-thick pads and no way to get to the store - awful, especially considering I got stung on the face by a bee that same night. I remember laying in the motor home crying thinking "why me" so it might have helped some if I could have read that I wasn't alone, especially since lots of my friends didn't start until much later - lucky girls ;D - and I didn't get much of a chance to talk about it with those who had started without boys always lurking around. I am still glad, though, that the books didn't make a big deal out of it. When I was really young, I hated reading about it (remember a mention in Diary of Anne Frank) because I was so dreadful of starting.

So do we really think that none of the BSCers had gotten their periods yet? I mean I was just shy of 13 when I got mine, but I can't imagine that out of a whole group of 13 year olds, not one had her period because honestly I was one of the last in my grade to get my period (well, as far as I know. I didn't go around asking, but I was one of the only girls who never had to sit out of swimming in PE due to being on my period).

I'm sure they did, although it was never mentioned.

^ Agree with Gracie. I always assumed they did but never really gave it much thought. Not something I enjoy thinking about. Dealing with it is bad enough ;D It was even worse at 13.....

Can you imagine the books they might have about the subject???
Kristy and her Friend or something stupid like that.
I was 11 and a half when I got my period. I was about 9 when I got my first bra. Both experiences sucked.

Yeah I just always assumed that they had their periods too (at least the older girls) but never really gave it much thought as to why it wasn't mentioned. I'm glad it wasn't mentioned, I really don't care about their menstral cycles!

I'm glad that it wasn't mentioned too. It was bad enough for me having my period. I didn't want to read about someone else having theirs.

I could imagine that Stacey, Dawn, Mary Anne, Shannon and... maybe Claudia already having their periods. Jessi (because she's a dancer... who often develop later), Mallory and Kristy would not have them yet (although in Kristy's Worst Idea, she did seem a bit PMSish). I was an early developer. I wore my first training bra when I was about 9 or 10 and got my first period when I just turned 11. Hate 'em though :s I feel like telling girls who are desperate for their periods to start to be very grateful as they honestly will not want them when they get them. I could imagine Mallory though, "If only I had my period, life would be a picnic."

^ I don't think that Kristy necessarily didn't have hers because she had no chest and was short. That doesn't mean that she wasn't developed. She could have just been a small person. I was the same size at 11 that I am now and my 10 year old cousin is as tall as me and I still don't have a chest (my cousin is almost bigger in that way, too ;D)

I could imagine Mallory though, "If only I had my period, life would be a picnic." I'm so glad I put my water down before I read this comment. Cannot. Stop. Laughing. I started when I was 12 1/2, and now I'm starting to think I got off easy!

^ She'd think having her period would be a picnic for about 2 minutes, then she'd wish she'd never started.

Haha, it's a good thing we don't have many boys around this fandom. :-p I'm sure they'd be traumatized by this thread.
To add to it, I was almost 14, but I was definitely one of the last in my class.
