That's probably what happened.

Yeah, I agree with you two. However, I can't imagine most rich kids deciding to get a job in order to seem mature. I think they'd be more likely to decide to get drunk or try to get into a club to seem mature! It's really weird when you think about it. And it's funny that we can spend so much time analyzing the fact that Laine had a job!

Here's another one I just found while re-reading Jessi's Big Break. Jessi is describing the beautiful cast-iron buildings in Soho. Geez, how many 11 year-olds even know what cast-iron is, let alone know what it looks like on a building?

Because we have way to much time on our hands.

I love how wonderfully behaved the kids are in the books and how, with absolutely no sense of irony or contradiction, the BSC game has all of these, "What would you do if you were babysitting for these horrible children?" questions.

Think about it -- baby Mallory, followed a year later by triplets! That would mean Mrs. Pike had FOUR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF ONE! Who on earth, under those circumstances, would go on to produce MORE children, essentially each year for the next half-decade? Re: Krushers -- Is it even LEGAL for a 13-year-old to run a team of her own? Just think of all the potentially dangerous problems that could result from one young girl being in charge of a swarm of younger kids, wielding bats, flinging baseballs, etc. At my daughter's school, they couldn't find a cheerleading coach this year, so they ended up using two high school girls who volunteer twice a week. Since the girls are underage, though, they can run the practice, but there always has to be a parent there with them, for liability reasons. Funny that nobody seemed to mind that with Kristy...

I noticed that with the exception of the Pikes and Sam and Charlie when they lived on Bradford Court, hardly any of the kids in Stoneybrook have to share a bedroom (I'm not counting the Arnolds, since they eventually got their own rooms). Additionally, every single house in town has a playroom/rec room and a den. Why are Stoneybrook houses so spacious?

Good point about the rec rooms. The girls are always like "Jessi herded the kids into the rec room, found art supplies, spread news paper on the table and had a fun project!" or whatever. I'd never heard of a rec room til I read the BSC.

Actually, rec rooms are pretty common for the area...I'm a lifelong Connecticut resident, and when I was growing up, pretty much everybody had a rec room-type space. We were just average, middle-class families, too.

The playrooms and rec rooms and dens were uncommon to me, so I liked reading about them. I thought they were pretty lucky to have so many different rooms to spread out in. Like, Karen's having a sleepover? She doesnt have to hold it in her own room, they can have it in the playroom and bring in the TV and VCR, and decorate the place with streamers! Yay!

I know what you mean. Almost every kid in Stoneybrook was better behaved when being baby-sat than I was when I was a kid, and it wasn't like I was a problem child or anything. I loved reading #122 where Vanessa's younger siblings handcuff and gag her, and #123 where Bill Korman shoves Melody and she hits her head. I think that's more what kids are actually like.

I actually like reading about the unrealistically good kids. To get the others, you can just go babysit for real

I like all the unrealistic stuff in these books, it escapes me from reality.

I hate that they got permission so easily to go places with charges and what not. I dont think their middle school trip to europe was unrealistic because my students from my middle school went to europe over the summer.
