The only Krystal I've ever known is the snottiest, most hateful person I've ever come across. Also most of the Amanda's I know are pretty stuck up just like Amanda Delaney. That's kinda funny, one of my very best friends name is Amanda and she is in no way stuck up. Also, my cousin's name is Amanda and she isn't either. I find it interesting though that we all find a lot of similarities in the names of people we know, as far as their personalities go.

I think the only Krystal I've ever met was an actress in Rent, and that was just a stage door meeting, it's not like I actually know her or something. I've been sheltered from C/Krystals, I guess.
I've known a lot of Amandas/Mandys, though. Most of them have been okay. I've not been great friends with any of them, but friendly enough. That was a popular name at my elementary school. I think we had four or five Amanda/Mandys in my grade.

I have this theory that Ann may have named a lot of her characters using The Beatles as reference. There's all the Johns and forms of it- maybe she was obsessed with John Lennon; Richard=Ringo; Maureen= for Ringo's first wife; Jacqui= John Lennon had a half sister named Jacqui; Lucy Newton= Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds; Eleanor Marshall= Eleanor Rigby. Or maybe I am reading too much into the names.

Remember, too, that what names would be common today (12/12yo's born between 1994 & 1996) aren't what would have been common when the books first came out. If the older BSC memebers were 12 in 1986, they were all born in 1974 & Mal/Jessi in 1976. Once characters were given their names, though, they had to be consistent even once they sounded outdated.

They stayed away from trendy names for the most part. I think Skylar Korman had the closest thing to a trendy name in BSC land.

There's a boy named Moon Pinckney in Kristy and the Dirty Diapers. Has anyone on these boards heard of someone called Moon? It's definitely unique and sounds more like one of those newfangled names rather than an old-fashioned or trendy one. As a side note.... Weird alert on the Crystal issue! It's pretty amazing how several of you knew mean girls by this name....in kindergarten, I knew a Crystal who bit me and hated me for no apparent reason!

Moon Unit Zappa? There was also a girl named Harmony in Fashion Victim, that's a pretty trendy name I guess.

Jumping in on the Crystal/mean girl thing ... I haven't known any Crystals since high school, where I knew several, and while most of them were okay, I ALSO knew a mean girl named Crystal!
Speaking of mean girls, two of the snottiest girls in my middle school were named Andi F. and A. Gentile, They were also best friends so I thought it was funny when Stacey had a bad-girl friend named Andi Gentile.
Anyway, I thought the BSC names were for the most part pretty normal. Though I agree about all the Johns.
