Which BSC books do you think are the most realistic and why?

Probably among the most realistic would be Snowbound, because everything just happens by accident. That they get stuck overnight wasn't planned- they got stuck!

I agree that Snowbound was one of the more realistic books! I would say that Mary Anne Saves the Day is also pretty realistic. It shows how her father accepts that she is growing up and she proves to him that she is mature enough. I thought it was great!

I think that Claudia and the Sad Good-bye is very realistic. I find Claudia's feelings and reactions quite accurate.

I actually thought a lot of the Stacey-narrated books were pretty realistic and relatable. For example, the Stacey-subplot of "The Truth About Stacey" dealing with her parents and how they handled her diabetes. Also, "Welcome Back, Stacey" was very relatable for me as a divorced kid - I found her emotions and reactions in that book quite realistic. To a point, I also think "Stacey's Emergency" was a pretty realistic account as well...

You're right even though today they'd have cell phones & none of that would have happened the way it did in 1986!

I agree that Stacey's book are the most realistic. Her experiences with her NY friends and then later on with the "bad girls" were also realistic for any 13 year old girl that just wants to fit in.
Outside of the BSC I would all of the California Diaries showed very realistic emotions of growing if you ignored the fact that they were supposed to be 13.

Re: Claudia and the Sad Good-bye. I cringe a little reading it now. I don't like the part when she goes back to school and everyone watches her in the hallway but don't come up to talk to her. In high school two people lost parents and one lost a sister, and I was guilty of the staring without making eye contact thing when they came back to school.
I'm looking through the list of book titles trying to find realistic ones. Not too much is popping out at me, lol. How about Dawn and the Older Boy? A crush on a high school guy, slightly changing herself for him, thinking it was much more serious than it was? It was more of a Stacey plot line, but I could see it happening in real life. Or Jessi and the Awful Secret? An anorexic ballerina isn't really mind boggling.

Crush on an older boy is really easy to imagine- even easier to have happen in our school which was grades 7-12 in the same building.

kristy's great idea. in the early books they acted more their age and less like mini-adults.

I do agree the CA books are realistic because of the obstacles they faced in the book are obstacles teens face in real life.I also believe the FF books are realistic.somewhat

Boy Crazy Stacey. The kids bicker realistically, Stacey getting caught up with a crush on a lifeguard, MA getting badly sunburnt, Stacey ignoring her job for a boy then realizing what an idiot she's been. Of course, it's my favorite, so I'm a little biased.
Greer, I totally agree that they acted much more age-appropriate in the earlier books.

I third your opinion about the early books.

Total agreement on the fact that they actually act 13 in the earlier books. As for most realistic, I think Claudia and the Sad Goodbye is very realistic. Claudia's grief is very realistic and she hits all the different stages - denial, anger, sadness, acceptance...
