Why are they looking UP a staircase into the secret passage? Doesn't the staircase go DOWN from the entrance in Dawn's bedroom? It IS underground, after all. Did anyone else actually LOOK for a secret passage anywhere after reading this book? My best friend and I did, mostly at her house, in spite of the fact that it was well under 100 years old.

The weird thing is, I never thought much about the secret pasasge until reading this post, and now it is driving me mad trying to figure it out! I guess its one of life's mysteries.

^ I never thought about it much either, until I re-read this book as an adult. The logistics are just NOT PLAUSIBLE because the passage would be visable from outside the house! The entry should be through a trap door in the floor and Dawn's room should be on the bottom storey.

There's a lot of underground railroad houses where i live and they were pretty creative. a lot of time people just push on a wall and BAM--they're in a crawlspace or passageway they never knew existed. if you're as spacey as Dawn's mom, a hidden staircase would not be something you'd notice. A really good book on this sort of thing--the plausibility of "extra" space in a house and mental effect it has--is Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_leaves we read it for class and now i think of it whenever i read about the passage.

I've been meaning to read that book for ages now. I really must remember to borrow it from the library someday. House of Leaves, that is, not The Ghost at Dawn's House.

I loved reading about their slumber party! Out of the BSC's choice of films, which one would you have watched? - Kristy's choice - Ghostbusters Claudia's choice - Star Wars Stacey's Choice (woah that's weird I unintentionally wrote that in capitals!) - Mary Poppins Mary Anne's choice - Sixteen Candles Dawn's choice - The Parent Trap Like Stacey, Mary Poppins is one of my favourite movies , but I don't think I'd have watched it at a sleepover. Hmm I've never seen Sixteen Candles but I've heard it's good. The Parent Trap is cool as well, although in the film, Hayley Mills looks a bit like the kid who played Charlie Bucket in the original Willy Wonka movie

I've been wanting to see Ghostbusters again for awhile now. I hate Sixteen Candles and The Parent Trap and Mary Poppins. Never seen Star Wars

Any of those movie sound good. I would probably go with 16 candles or The parent trap though.

My favourite out of those movies is Star Wars (I am such a big geek that I named one of my cats Leia), but if those were my options for movies to watch tonight, I'd pick The Parent Trap because I really like it but I haven't seen it in years and years. The reason I wanted to see it when I was a little kid was because I knew it was Dawn's favourite movie, and I really enjoyed it and I've seen it a bunch of times, but not for ages. I like all the other movies, too, but I've seen them all more recently, the most recent being Mary Poppins, which I watched again a month or so ago.

I once got a bunch of old books when I was younger- I found this one that had been published in the 1940s, originally in German I think. I read it and realised instantly it was the book the Parent Trap was based on. I think it was called Lottie and Lisa. It was pretty interesting.
