I also would have liked baby ballerinas - the little leotards and tu tus would have been cute. Except what about the boys? (Are they called ballerinas?) I haven't taken dance lessons since I was 4 Ahh...this brings back memories of dancing in the Christmas recital dressed as a Christmas gift. That would have been a cute baby float.

Were there that many boy babies, besides Squirt? All the charges we know by name are mostly girls (the baby ones, anyway). And I'd imagine boy ballerinas just being called dancers.

Yeah, I remember Jessi mentioning that boy ballerinas are called dancers) in one of her books in which Quint featured. Never noticed that there were so few boy babies!

Well except for Ricky Salem but he has a twin sister so I guess that sort of cancels it out.

As far as the girls sitting for Lucy at a young age, in Claudia and Mean Janine they're sitting for her and she's 7 months old.

Lucy was born in The Truth About Stacey, the same time that The Baby-sitters Agency was formed. Jamie informed Kristy that she couldn't sit for him anymore because his mom wanted an older sitter. Kristy asked Mrs. Newton about it, she got embarrassed and said she should have told them, and then explained that she wanted an older sitter for a few months. It's understandable, but they heard the news from a 4 year old, which had to suck.

I just finished this book, and I thought it was terrible. Boring, boring, boring, and the "subplot" wasn't really a subplot as much as a variation on the main plot. I actually kind of liked Kristy's idea for the float. I was amused by this part, though: "Squirt was totally captivated by Sesame Street. His favorite character is this little guy Elmo, who isn't on very often, so Squirt has to watch carefully in order to catch him." Ah, the good old days of the 1980s when Elmo was but a minor character who didn't totally dominate the show.

^That's why I love any time they mention real pop culture. It's so funny. (Not counting I Love Lucy or The Wizard of Oz. We get it, Ann. You love them. Let's move on.)

Ah, the good old days of the 1980s when Elmo was but a minor character who didn't totally dominate the show. Squirt was ahead of his time...if he'd kept his original Elmo toys in good condition, I bet they'd be worth a ton on money now. Does the fact that I can remember watching Sesame Street when there WAS no Elmo make me old???

I thought this book was stupid because I felt so embarressed for the girls! So did I! But I felt even more embarrassed for Charlie Thomas, especially when his friends recognized him pulling that horrible-looking thing around. And I love how he bolted as soon as the parade was over.

I always love reading about the babies in this one. They sound so cute – especially the description of Emily at the beginning. This might be one I would like to see on screen. The fight between the girls was pretty foolish, as usual, but I can see how some of them felt bad. I thought Dawn was quite mean to Mallory, who didn’t intentionally make ugly costumes. I can see her making the statement to MA and being overheard but was kind of disappointed in her that she didn’t seem to feel bad about hurting Mal’s feelings. Mal should have checked with everyone else before making the costumes, just like Claudia should have checked with someone on her spelling ;D, but still…. I also thought it was pretty bad that Dawn put Eleanor in a different costume, too, all on her own (even though that costume did sound cuter ) The problems could have all been solved with a bit more communication (but I guess that would have taken away most of the plot) My favorite part, as always, is the description of Mrs. Perezzioso’s costume. ;D It kind of reminds me of a costume that a little boy at the horse shows used to do where he was Timothy Mouse from Dumbo (ears and all – it was the absolute cutest thing I’ve ever seen, esepcailly when he told his story to the judges and said “me Timothy Mouse” ), the Horse was Dumbo with the trunk and ears and full suit, and his mom dressed as the ringmaster with the tall boots and painted on mustache. A few years before that, she had led her nephew in costume class and dressed as a jester in one of the stupid hats and tights. What people do for their kids ;D That is what this book always reminds me of and makes me picture all of those adorable costumes that I miss seeing at the horse shows now that I don’t show anymore (really missing it right now as I always used to be at a 4th of July show) Anyway…. Back to the book, I think Charlie deserved the “world’s nicest brother” award for pulling that float, which sounded hideous. Claud’s spelling, alone, would have been bad enough. I thought it was funny how he talked about enjoying watching it be crushed. I wonder how long he was teased for being in the parade. Poor guy. He is always so good to Kristy and her friends.

ITA about Charlie He sounds like a great guy! I thought this fight was stupid and kinda came out of nowhere... but funny none the less. Dawn was rude putting Eleanor in a different costume. I though Claudia wasn't allowed to spell on their little projects anymore?! I'm glad they didn't win any prizes... can't have em being great at everything!

^ I always wonder when they're going to learn their lesson about Claudia - she can't spell and will mess it up! As for Dawn, I thought she was very rude, too. And isn't this the one where she made a kind of mean comment to Mallory? I think Dawn can be more blunt than Kristy sometimes, just in a different way. Maybe that's another reason there is some tension between them at times.
