^ I know an "alien baby" too. ;D I can picture her dressed as one now. Maybe it would improve things..... ;D (sorry, that was mean) Of course, I think the babies in this book would be cute no matter what they were dressed as. ;D I am getting a good laugh now picturing Charlie trying to sink down in the seat of the car so no one would notice him pulling the hideous float. ;D Was Kristy riding on the float since she wasn't walking with the Perezziosos?

Kristy did ride the float. She threw together a costume to look like an old woman, to go with the "Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe" theme.

^ I am now picturing this Mrs. Santa Claus costume this girl used to wear at the horse shows. ;D When she put on the costume, she actually looked 80 years old but I doubt Kristy could achieve that. ;D

^ I don't think she could, either. The costume sounded really thrown-together and not at all well-thought out.

Doesn't she draw some wrinkles on her face? That doesn't sound like it would be too effective to me.

^ I doubt it would have been a very good costume. I've seen people draw the wrinkles before and it ends up looking pretty dumb. Of course, I don't think even the best costume could achieve the same effect as the girl I knew. ;D

I didn't really enjoy this book. To me, the parade wasn't such a good idea. I didn't like Mrs. Prezzioso and her prissy daughter Jenny. Such a brat.

One of the reasons I love this book now, as I mentioned in another thread, is the BSC goes in over their head, takes the whole parade too seriously, and FAILS at something, instead of being the Super Sitters they usually are. It humanized them in a way lol. They even acknowledge their problems at the end.
And, of course, I love the catty fighting going on between them. Stacey bitches Mallory out when they try the florescent pink clown suits on the kids and tells her the material's ugly and clashes with the float. Um...you're the one who painted the float. Wouldn't you have noticed it while you guys were getting everything together?
I know it's not a popular book, and the plot is pretty dumb, but its snark factor is very high!

I love the chapter where they're trying to pick a theme for the float. Everyone makes their predictable suggestions (kittens, surfers, Broadway, etc.) except Claudia says aliens. Lol.

^ Wasn't Claudia the one who thought they should watch "Star Wars" at Dawn's slumber party at the end of "Ghost at Dawn's House?"

I have not been here in FOREVER!!!!!! Anyway, I just wish the float on the cover didn't look so good. I usually use the covers to give me a mental picture as to what's going on in the book and the "shoe" didn't look like an "orange blob" to me. A better cover would have been all the babysitters doing their famous eye rolls (re: Claudia and the Perfect Boy : standing in front of, well......an orange blob. Speaking of which, those babies on the cover...actual babies or dolls???

^ I always thought they were meant to be actual babies, since the girls used actual babies on the float.

Actual babies, just poorly drawn!
I didn't think the float looked that good on the cover. Better than the description in the book, yes, but yikes! That orange color was awful.

Not one of my favorite BSC books. I feel awful for poor Jenny who actually wants to participate in the parade but is constantly being told either "No," or "You're too old." Was it only Kristy on the float or did any other BSC Member ride on it? The second thing is Emily. Sigh. Since when is 2 1/2 a baby? It is strange to me that that we are supposed to think of Emily as much younger than she really is. Lastly, I thought of one "new" thing as I began to re-read last night, namely the "nursery rhyme" itself. The words are below: There was an old woman who lived in a shoe. She had so many children, she didn't know what to do; She gave them some broth without any bread; Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed And the above is BSC pc how, exactly? Not too mention a horrible message for any reader!
