Cool, thanks for looking that up, zoar. I knew Chewy was still pretty young. I have to say I much prefer my mellow eleven-year-old Lab to a crazy eight-month-old one!

I reread this one because I just got hired at a pet store. I love animals but I've mostly had dogs and fish only, and a few random pets throughout the years (one rabbit, one parakeet, one hamster) so it was fun to read about the unusual pets like Barney, or how the pets interact. I only had one hamster so I never got to see him sleeping in a pile, or chasing after his mom like Rosie and Powder. Chewy reminds me SO MUCH of my dog. I love the part where Chewy walks up to the other dogs and pretends he's on a leash, and also when he knows they are trying to take him back to his house and won't budge. He has such a fun personality.
I will have to read again after I get a few shifts under my belt, to see whether taking care of a huge amount of animals is any fun.

Hooray for Chewy (I'll have to read a book he's in and for your new job, too, Oldhickory! I hope you have fun, just be careful of any Barneys and I'm sure you already have made a difference to tha animals

I'm really liking the job so far, thanks! But I'm a cashier only and I don't get to interact with the animals at all, unless they come through my line with their owners. I did see a customer the other day with three dogs (all different breeds) and it did remind me of this book though. They were super stimulated until I gave each of them a dog treat, and they lined up and stared at me hoping for more. It was so cute! I don't think I could ever walk three dogs at once. His dogs were pretty well-behaved but mine gets so excited at every little thing.

I've done three at once on one of my own pet sitting adventures, but they were all small and elderly.

I actually liked this book because of my soft spot for animals and I love Kristy. She's just likable despite her bossiness. Shes my third favourite after Mallory and Shannon.

One thing I don't understand is, Jessi says that the poodle Pooh Bear goes ballistic every time it encounters a cat on their walk, but I'm thinking, "Uh, doesn't he live with FIVE cats?!" Crosby (orange tiger cat), Ling Ling (Siamese), Tom (patchy gray cat), Rose and her kitten, Powder.

Maybe he goes ballistic at unfamiliar cats?

BTW: It was strange how Kristy asked Mrs. Rodowsky if Jackie could have "a pet of his own," but didn't he already have a lizard(?) named Elizabeth in LOGAN LIKES MARY ANNE (#10).

I noticed a mistake in this book. It’s on page 66.
I guess she could tell that no was on her side. Jessi and I might not have been on the other side, but we weren’t on hers, either.

This was kind of a snooze fest. There were way too many animals in the Mancusi house, and as per usual, I can’t believe they felt comforted by the thought of an 11 year old pet-sitting for over a week. I thought it was also completely out of character for Mary Anne to even agree to enter the house, let alone deal with Barney the snake’s disappearing act. Also Jessi’s constant refusal to let anyone else handle a dog while walking was ridiculous. Surely a small 11 year old trying to wrangle three leashes alone is far more likely to result in disaster.
Kirsty’s extra level of bossiness in this book was odd, and I’m not sure the explanation of her channeling Charlie’s pre-college nerves is very convincing. I did love it when one of the other girls asked Kristy what exactly her role entailed because she certainly has less to do than the other positions. Possibly nothing, even. Mal and Jess’s spluttering inability to voice an opinion on this whole process drove me up the wall. Speak up! Gah! Also loved the hilarious typo at one point where AMM seems to have forgotten that this is a Jessi book and starts writing as if Mallory is the narrator.
I loved the Jackie sub-plot, I thought it was adorable. Not sure i buy him conveniently calling Kristy out on being bossy though. For one thing, kids are generally bossed around by elders and should expect that. Two, it’s also likely that Jackie would need extra ‘bossing’, given the propensity for total disaster. I wonder what the long-term psychological impact of constantly being referred to as a walking disaster is- poor kid will grow up thinking he deserves bad things to happen to him.

I recently listened to the audiobook of this one, and the subplot is pretty great when you hear someone yelling Kristy's lines out loud instead of just reading them to yourself in your head. She sounds seriously unhinged!

She sounds seriously unhinged! This had me laughing, I think if I were to deliver most of kristys lines I would be yelling some of them too. Makes the bsc seem less cult like if that makes sense.
