^ Yeah, I love Richard in the underwear race -- so funny! The last time I read this book was when I was in the hospital last year, and while I wouldn't say it cheered me right up, it was still a good read for a time like that.

I just finished reading this book. I can't believe Richie chickened out for the actual Underwear Race at the Run for Your Money Event. ;D

^ I was so disappointed with that ;D I loved the whole thing with Sharon and the girls teasing him and the Arnolds walking past and seeing him. Somehow I guessed he'd chicken out though.

Just finished this book tonight. What irritated me was how Dawn was worried that her friends would change and hate her when she went back to CA but she never bothered to contact them after all the worrying.

Was this the book where Dawn gets cold feet about going back CA? Like she all of a sudden changes her mind and says that she's staying. And Claudia says something like, "so who's going to give the welcome back party?" I dunno. I thought that was hilarious.

^Yep, this is the one! I'm sure not even Elizabeth and Watson would have let Kristy coast-hop as much as Richard and Sharon let Dawn. (That is, if Kristy was on good terms with Patrick.)

^ Agree. I think Sharon is really good about trying to do whatever she thinks is best for her kids. I know lots of people have said that she was wrong to uproot them and bring them to Stoneybrook but it's not like she doesn't let them go back (and then come back and then go back again, and again....;D) Dawn kind of irritates me in this one, though I can relate sometimes to not being able to make a decision or to wanting to change my mind after making a big one because I'm scared I'm doing the wrong thing. I constantly second guess myself, too, and I think that might be what Dawn is doing here. I haven't read this one much and not for a while but remember loving the subplot. I might need to reread soon just for that. I need a good laugh right now

haha that's funny Dawn is all worried about her friends after she leaves, considering she doesn't miss them at ALL. Reminds me of in Stacey's Lie, at first Stace wants to use her vacation to go visit Dawn. Dawn would never do that! (sorry Dawn, I still love you the bestest!)

I think in Dawn's California time from Dawn's Big Move until Here Come the Bridesmaids, she does miss her Stoneybrook friends more than she does post-Farewell Dawn/in the CA Diaries. But I don't think she would have enjoyed her time in California at all, nor been able to properly be with her CA friends and family, if all the time was spent thinking about how much she missed her friends and her family. Plus, the books out of California would have been really boring if it was just a bunch of Dawn being depressed because she misses her friends. I mean, she got what she wanted, I think she's more focused on the good.
As for not missing her friends in the CD's, she seems surprised that she doesn't miss that much, and when she's planning her trip back after Gracie's born, she's getting really excited about being in Stoneybrook.
I'm not a big fan of Dawn's coast hopping, but this is obviously something she struggles with the entire series before she does something about it. I dunno, I felt the need to defend Dawn a little.

The end of this book always brings tears to my eyes. It's the part where Dawn and Sharon are saying goodbye before Dawn gets on the plane. I'm such a sap!

I liked this book and could understand why Dawn had a change of heart about moving back to California. Going back and forth must be hard on her. Sometimes, it's hard when parents get divorced. I never had to go through that since my parents divorced when I was twenty.

It's still a pain for me, because I usually have a very tight schedule for visiting people, so I've often been in situations where I have two weeks for visiting everyone I want to see before I have to leave for six months or so, and I have to split that between at least two states which are a 2.5 hour plane ride from one another. And if I want to see friends then it becomes more complicated, because none of my friends live where my parents live.

One thing I didn't like about this book was Kristy's reaction when Dawn broke the news to the BSC. She practically yells at Dawn for abandoning the club, when they're already swamped with work, and guilt-trips her enough where Dawn decides she'll stay. Are these girls really that afraid of defying Kristy? And her attitude just carries into the next book, where she practically yells at Mallory for turning down tons of jobs because she doesn't feel well. The BSC isn't the be-all and end-all!
I like how the other girls are very supportive of Dawn and are encouraging her to do what she thinks will make her happy while Kristy's going "I don't know. I just don't know..." and shaking her head because, heaven forbid, the BSC will be one member short and they might have to *gasp* turn down jobs and some clients might *GASP* find other sitters. I don't know why they didn't bring Shannon up at that point instead of waiting for Mallory to temporarily leave too!

Yes, I hated this, too. Re: the carryover into the next book, Dawn calls during a BSC meeting and Kristy grabs the phone and starts screaming about how Dawn has to come home right away because they're so swamped with baby-sitting jobs. HATE. I'd have been relieved to get away from the BSC, if Kristy was going to be such a psycho about everything.
