I know Dawn was unhappy in Stoneybrook, but in my opinion she should have had to stay there for the remainder of 8th grade and had plans to move to Cali for high school. I think it would have just been horribly disruptive to her schooling to move back and forth like she did! It is the single thing that made me dislike her the most...especially when she had promised her mother she wouldn't do that! Not that her mother was right in uprooting her children, but I can understand her wanting to be around her family and in her home town and thinking that her children would like it as much as she did. Or they could have compromised and made it so that Dawn and Jeff lived with her for half a year and with him for half a year.

ITA, Sarish. It made more sense for Dawn to have completed 8th Grade in CT. During Thanksgiving and Winter Break she could have checked out/possibly spoken to a counselor at either Vista or another HS in CA and then taken a little while to sort everything out. At that point, the decision for her to attend HS in CA should have been made. She would have had the summer to relocate back to CA, plus spend some time in CT. Just another case of the time warp along with BSC members eternally remaining in 8th Grade creating scenarios that made no realistic sense. It even would have worked better if Dawn had graduated SMS, begun SHS..once the year got under way there and then based on something besides her wanting to move back to CA ASAP, make plans for her to return and not just for 6 months. As for Sharon's original choice of move to CT. Lol, that can cause it's own havoc. As I've said before, if Sharon, Dawn and Jeff has actually been closer to her parents (Maybe they were and we simply never got to read about it) and/or Sharon and Jack's divorce was so completely hostile that she had to move far away from him...or of course that Jack was yet another deadbeat dad in the BSC verse (I noticed in MA and the Library Mystery that the Ghostie made a father be the parent to have forgotten to return his child's book and pay a fine). I actually thought other than his behavior in BSC in the USA toward MA, Jack might very well have been a better parent than Sharon! Anyway, I think okay, they divorce halfway in 7th grade. Sharon should have moved close by so that Dawn and Jeff could have completed middle and elementary school respectively at Vista and/or wherever Jeff attended. When D and J were in their 8th/5th grade years, a year or so later, if Sharon still found living in CA to be not working for her, she could have begun to give serious considering to moving back to CT. Quite possibly, if she did chose to make a move, D and J might have come with her to see their grandparents and where their mom would be living but in all likelihood would have chosen to attend MS and HS in CA. Sharon still could have re-met Richard, it just would have come about in a different way. Fan fic anyone?

I thought it was weird how Dawn didn't want to stay with her mom like most girls would.

I figured that Sharon liked CT more then CA, and maybe didn't put down deep roots. An interesting point is made though: assuming she's 43, and met Jack in college, she spent almost 20 years with the guy. And yet, the divorce seems very sudden and out of left field, along with moving all the way across the country to get away from him? Hm. Makes you wonder.
Dawn grew up in California for all her life, so it made sense she missed it, and her dad and brother were an added bonus (although how she missed them sounded odd for me now).

the part about the dance relay still cracks me up everytime, especially the part about how kristy suddenly gets embarrassed and then realizes she's losing. it seems so typically kristy -- even though she probably looks stupider dancing than she does losing, she doesn't care.
i don't think i caught this before, but kristy was handing out fliers at run for your money. she was horribly mean to dawn about how the bsc couldn't handle all the business, but she's still trying to get new customers? what the hell kristy. you can't have it both ways. i think she owes dawn a HUGE apology for being such a hypocritical cow, and this is coming from someone who normally loves it when people hate on dawn.

I never noticed that, oldhickory, and I agree with you. If Kristy truly felt they were too busy to lose a member, she had no business handing out fliers.

Yup, agreed. She was always the first one to complain about work overload/shortage of sitters, so what was she always handing out fliers for? Very annoying.

That's an interesting point that you bring up. When Dawn moved back to California permanently, did a lot of people send Ann letters, asking Dawn to be brought back to Stoneybrook and to stay there, like with Stacey?
I didn't like how Kristy tried to guilt trip Dawn into staying in Stoneybrook. I wish someone would've said something to her.
