i agree. the way people signed up to compete also bothered me. what are the chances that a group of seven teen girls from the other town just happened to sign up for the same event as the bsc? it would have made more sense if people put their named down for certain events and the organizers found any seven people willing to compete against them. but restricting people to signing up as teams, and then trying to find teams with the same number of participants, seems like hard work.

The general concept sounds like fun but it was xarried out in too complicated a way.

Two things popped out at me:
1. Dawn was eating eggs! For a vegetarian, I would think that would be a no no.
2. She says that when the bsc was in ca Stacey had a crush on a guy and went with his friends And they got into an accident. This was the one time that Stacey actually didn't have a crush on someone!

I think it's okay for a vegetarian to eat eggs. Now, if she was a vegan, I can see how that can be a problem.

^ Aren't there some extreme vegetarians/vegans who won't eat eggs because each one technically represents a chicken that won't have a chance to live?

There are all degrees/types of vegetarians. As far as I know, only vegans don't eat anything that comes from an animal. While it could be argued that Dawn was a type of vegetarian, because of her fish, chicken, possibly turkey eating ways, I never felt she was such at all. We know she didn't care much about animals in themselves, she had no problem carrying or wearing leather products. Didn't someone also give her a leather journal once?

Normally I love Peter Lerangis, but I think this is one of, if not his weakest book. Dawn doesn't sound like "Dawn" at all, much more like Kristy or Abby (ironic since she wasn't in the series yet.) I only read this one for the first time last year and I didn't enjoy it at all.

I'm just meh on this book. It comes in the middle of a stretch where there are just a ton of Dawn books. I don't dislike her any more than usual in this book, but it's only three books after Dawn's Family Feud, which I like way better.
Yet again, a going away party with the kids they babysit for as the guests. Just what every teenage girl wants, is a party with a bunch of 8-year olds.

i am a vegetarian who eats eggs, but throughout the series dawn also eats a lot of foods that i won't touch, like actual chickens and hot dogs, so eating eggs is not a big deal considering.

^ She does mention that "today she was in the mood for eggs" -- whatever that means.
I was trying to be open to Dawn and understanding of her flux throughout the book and constant mind changes, but what really bothered me is after Mary Anne was being supportive and not crying, Dawn questions whether she would miss her and really cares. Everything was all about Dawn. I also noticed some hypocrisy - caught her doing things she would have made fun of/looked down on Mary Anne doing.
The vibe of this book was kind of off for me. Run for Your Money was fun but then it tying with Dawn's moving, I guess there was a point there but it just meshed funny for me.

^It meant she was in the mood for eggs. Haven't you ever used the expression "I'm in the mood for *whatever* " before? When Jeff left we got the Little Miss pageant hijinks to deal with as well. I guess humor with a little bit of drama feels less forced than drama with a little bit of humor. I don't recall Jeff or Dawn ever being mad at their mother for the move to Connecticut. Upset at the situation, but not with her. It kinda makes me feel like they knew the move was the right decision for her even though it wasn't for them.

What I was actually referring to with that was earlier in the thread where there was a discussion about Dawn and her vegetarianism when it comes to egg eating, considering that she talks about animal murder in other books. I guess I should have been more specific

I'm really surprised to see Stacey mixing brown shoes and black tights together. Actually, Claudia's doing the same thing, but that doesn't surprise me as much. And Mary Anne's shirt is horrendous!
