Read this last night and wow. Its awful! i usually like Kristy in her books, but she was a total b*tch in this one. Freaking out about Mallory wanting to take her writing class and Jessi having to miss Friday meetings. Although, I do agree that switching the Friday meeting to Thursday was a stupid idea.
Anyway, this is only the 3rd book I've read featuring Abby and man Kristy was pretty brutal towards her, do they really not get along? And why was Abby filling in as President in the books before this one?
I have to admit, I did feel really sad when they broke up the club, it seemed very hasty. And Stacey/Claud's reluctance to start it up again was not cool. and seriously, LOL at the parents around town FREAKING OUT about the club breaking up! Mr. Papadakis offered them money if they'd stay together! LOL!

I know, heaven forbid that these people actually take their children to the grocery store.

i actually really liked this book. i liked reading about how over-the-top the BSC activities were getting (the fall into fall festival with maple sugaring and apple picking!)
i agree that the switching friday meetings to thursday was ridiculous. i remember someone suggested that they just excuse jessi from friday meetings. it's a simple solution, people.
also, the fact that they were starting 8th grade for about the 100th time. and all of a sudden everyone is like "we're going to be really busy this year, kristy."
i hated at the end when they decided to get back together and suddenly abby puts a cassette tape into the boom box and starts dancing.

They seem to argue a lot and are often annoyed by each other. But in some books, it seems to me that Kristy is Abby's only actual friend in the BSC. It's a love/hate relationship, I guess.

I didn't like it, the maple sugaring bit confused me to death. I mean, why? I think my memories of this book are more about obtaining the actual book, and not the contents. I remmber dragging my grandparents to all the book shops I could find when I was visiting them for the summer, and we couldn't find it...I think the release was delayed in Australia... And I remember not wanting to smudge the cover of the book, and holding it very gingerly for the whole time I was reading it

Wasn't Abby the only one without a "best friend"?

^She sure was. I remember liking that about her, because my best friend left me for boarding school shortly after I got into the BSC books.

I did feel kinda bad for Abby in this book cause all the old clients were calling Kristy, MA, Jessi, etc., and she wasn't getting any jobs cause she was the new girl.

Stupid. If I was a BSC client, I wouldn't be calling the 11 yr olds.

I guess I'd rather call 11 year old Mallory and Jessi, who've babysat my children a million times, than call Abby who I don't really know that well. But realistically, it was probably the older club members (minus Abby) getting the jobs.

Plus, Abby lives far from most of the clients. It would be much more convenient to hire Mallory or Jessi.

Yeah I guess. I just wanted an excuse to snark the fact that they were... ELEVEN. Come on. My cousin is eleven and he's a BABY. I don't even know if he's allowed to stay home on his own.

I read that as, "My cousin is eleven and has a baby."

This book is the host of the most overdramatic scene in BSC history:
My heart felt as if it were being hit with a hammer. The BSC--myBSC, the center of my life, was about to come to an end. A voice inside was screaming to stop this nonsense, say it was all a joke.
But I knew this was the right thing to do.
I took two long, deep breaths. "All in favor of disbanding the Baby-sitters Club raise your hands."
Not one hand went up.
Then, shakily, Claudia raised hers.
Stacey's followed. Then Abby's and Shannon's.
I swallowed hard. I shot mine in the air.
Logan followed. Mary Anne burst into tears as she put hers up.
Jessi and Mallory were crying, too. Both of their arms were folded tightly against their chests.
"I--" The words caught in my throat. "I, Kristy Thomas, hereby declare that the Baby-sitters Club no longer exists."
As soon as the words left my mouth, I wanted to pass out.
But I didn't. I just looked from one pair of teary eyes to the next. Nobody seemed to know what to say.
Except Claudia. She blew her nose, then leaned over to her answering machine and pressed the record button.
"Hello, this is Claudia," she said softly. "The Baby-sitters Club is no longer in existence, but individual members are available at their home numbers. Please leave a message for me at the sound of the beep..."
although i suppose that for such an occasion, only overdramatics would do. also, of COURSE mary anne "bursts into tears" (is there ever another description for her crying episodes?), and of COURSE shannon and logan were conveniently present for this meeting. when else have they ever been in attendance?
