Hey misfit, I am in the same boat! I also outgrew the BSC around that time... There are definitely some gems to read after #70. You should check out #83 (Stacey vs. the BSC - more great drama) and #85 (Claudia Kishi, Live From WSTO, but I am also a Claudia fan)... I also liked #93, Mary Anne and the Memory Garden, because it has a death in it, which is interesting. #87 Stacey and the Bad Girls is also a must read. The FF series is OK, but if you're only going to read a couple, I'd recommend the Super Specials (Everything Changes and Graduation Day). They're a bit longer, and they focus on the core group rather than other auxiliary characters. Also - and I could be wrong but I feel like I read this somewhere - I think they are the only two Ann M. Martin wrote (?) so they have that feel to it. I am also in my 30s, re-obsessed with BSC, and re-collecting... you should totally get your family to help you collect! I shared a list of the last books I am missing with friends and family...now, about once a month I get a message from someone saying they picked me up one! I also get BSCs for Christmas, and yes, my family makes fun of me

I'd finished reading KWI for the first time. Here's my thoughts on it: Obviously written by Lerangis. Over the top humor, snark, eye-roll worthy moments, over exaggeration, etc. Kristy was more annoying than usual. She's very over controlling and too power hungry. She seems to really hate Abby. Her ideas about the Fall Into Fall festival is ridiculous and unrealistic and I admittedly kind of want to see how the advice hotline would work out heh though i enjoyed the family scene at the beginning very crazy and Kristy's reaction is realistic for a teen girl I also noticed that Kristy and Mary Anne are closer now that's dawn had gone back to California. Abby is hilarious! I don't like her all that much as she wasn't one of the original BSC members. She came in too late into the series IMO. I liked that she pointed out that she was the newest member and Stoneybrook parents wouldn't be as aware of her and she wouldn't get as much sitting jobs. But anyway the stuff she says is very funny. I LOLed more than a few times. I felt bad for Claudia as she really seems to struggle with school. Another year of 8th grade, oh, poor Claud. No wonder she gets sent back to 7th grade the next book. It was sad and disappointing that she was the first one to vote for the disband of the BSC she was also funny and stupid a lot of the time. I loved and hated that she misspelled her friend's last name. hee. And hilarious how she made Mr. Hobart help her with her math homework! (Speaking of stupidity, Kristy seemed sort of airy and ditzy as well all of a sudden...even Claudia the queen of stupidity corrected Kristy a few times!) Stacey seemed sort of snobby with the money comments. Jessi and Mallory. I felt bad for them. They wanted other activities and they just get hammered by Kristy the dictator. Also one of the sitters I don't remember who had a dentist or doctor appointment in a BSC meeting time and Kristy gets mad at them. Um they don't have any control over that crap!! Though I wouldn't be surprised if the BSC members book their own appointments without parents help...anyway Jessi and Mallory should've been just excused. Though I can understand why Kristy got mad at Stacey and Mary Anne for shopping being the reason why they're late for a meeting. Aw, and poor Mal for hurting Claire's finger that reminds the time I accidentally gave my little sister a nosebleed and knocked out two of her front teeth. I don't remember how exactly but I do know we were playing outside and I was 7 and she was 2...ah memories. It was relatable that Kristy felt sad and depressed that the BSC ended yet she was relieved. The BSC members really often don't get free time! They're always so busy. It was sad seeing the BSC being so separate this book realistic yes and dramatic which I love but sad. I like the BSC as a club! They're BFFs! I thought the getting back together at the end was forced and sudden but just my opinion. I liked this book. It's good for a later ghostwritten book. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars. Oh, and btw, I read the author's note at the back of the book, and Ann says that maybe there'd be a book #200 in 2005. Too bad that never happened even though #131 regular books are enough for sure!

I totally agree with you and I had just read this book for the first time last week. This main synopsis of this book was a "breath of fresh air/reality" in an oh-so-perfect world where everyone magically has all the time in the world and the skills to do everything they want to do and to do it super well each and every time. It was contrived from them to get back together at the end and I would have liked to see more character growth rather than the chiche ending (maybe I'll see that in the Friends 4 Ever series?).

Glad somebody else agrees with me! Yes, there's some character growth in the friends forever series. Really it's entirely different than the BSC regular books.

Did anyone think that after this book came out, the rest became more about the girls but not really babysitting? Sure they had new clients and sitting jobs but it was usually the pikes and Barrett/DeWitts.

This book was overall OK. Kristy and Claudia were somewhat annoying but in-character and Kristy's perspective was definitely understandable though she didn't express it well. Her comparing Stacey having a doctor's appointment to shopping and making fun of Abby's cold were awful. It felt like Kristy was too used to getting her way, all the members jumping enthusiastically into each of her projects and the parents being dependent on her (I didn't get why Cokie wanted to baby sit (I thought her family was wealthy) or why she was so resentful that a parent hired her). I did love her description that the club had been "Abbified." The ending was a little disappointing, with Kristy again insisting they make the club #1!!!! priority (although she tolerates Mal's group as it will be brief), Claudia and Mary Anne ending their feud abruptly and it actually being due to each thinking the other was better (I thought it was more that Claudia was impatient and imposing) and the tensions between Kristy and Abby just forgotten. Claudia seemed especially dim and mostly apathetic about school but I thought the writing of Stacey was pretty great (remembering and pointing out the importance of the initial problems) and Mallory was written as younger and more likable than she had been for many books. Mary Anne and Abby being late for shopping and not calling about it was pretty careless. I assume Stacey was still sitting occasionally during the break-up but mostly for the kids she really liked (mostly Charlotte and Jamie) but even then she may not have made her self as available due to not thinking of sitting as part of a business and not knowing if the others were available. It also made sense that she was not so bothered by the break-up as she continued to spend time with Claudia who she was closest too (it was a shame that Kristy and Mary Anne didn't seem to spend much time together).

This book has always been one of my favorites in a guilty pleasure sort of way, with all of the fighting and all. Kristy and Mallory are quite pathetic in this book; Kristy wanting to control all aspects of her friends lives and Mallory wanting the club to continue, even though the girls never did treat her that well.
I wonder what would happen if the BSC downsized to two girls: Kristy and Mallory?

I just finished this book and, while it wasn't my favourite, I did quite enjoy it. I agree that Kristy was a pretty unfair to Mallory and Jessi about missing meetings - I mean, it's surely no big deal for Mallory to miss one meeting per week just for 6 weeks. I think it Kristy's response would have made more sense had the writers made it so that Jessi was going to non compulsory extra dance events and missing meetings and maybe even forgetting sitting jobs because she's got too much on her plate. If Jessi was biting off more than she can chew and thus becoming unreliable and letting the club and it's clients down then I think it would make more sense for Kristy to give her an ultimatum of attend the meetings or leave the club. I understood Kristy's feelings however but felt especially bad for Mal and Jessi. Kristy's Fall into Fall Festival was pretty wacky, but then the characters are only 13 and the readers in the 8-12 range, so I don't think it's unrealistic, besides Kirsty's was drawing at straws a bit in her desperation to remain relevant and reassert herself. I also understood Kristy being so shaken after Jackie's fall since she seemed to be already feeling pretty insecure with regard to Abbey being president and members not attending meetings etc. I think the whole idea of the club being too big a commitment and a struggle to manage was realistic to me and also interesting to read about, as much as I didn't like them breaking up. Overall, I did really like this one, although it's not among my favourites. I also love the shiny silver cover! Abbey and Mallory were great in this one too, I liked the way Mal was so willing to give up her writing club for the BSC and the pressure she felt to so, I also really liked her loyalty. I thought Abbey was funny and that she balanced Kristy out really well with her relaxed and fun manner and Kristy's stressed, inflexible and serious state of mind. In, this way, I think this book really established Abbey's relevance, purpose and value in the club and what she had to add to it as a new member. I think that, as much as Abbey and Kristy clash, they ultimately balance one another out really well.

I quite liked this book this time 'round. Here are my thoughts:
- I still remember when this book first came out and it was wrapped in plastic and came with a bracelet. Always wished it was something else, like a bookmark or something, as I wasn't into jewelry gifts. - I always remember the scene in chapter 1. It reads like a sitcom or movie scene to me. In fact, this book could easily be adapted into a t.v. episode. - Laughed at an adverb being a "verb from an advertisement", thought it was a clever Lerangis part. - I liked how there weren't too many babysitting subplots - or if they were - they were closely integrated to the main storyline. - This book does answer some of our snarky questions and "omgs this wouldn't happen" comments as they do break the fourth wall a bit and lay out the challenges that the club truly does pose on the characters.

Mine came with a necklace with a BSC pendant. Yeah, Lerangis was clever. He’s a Harvard man

I wonder what would happen if the BSC downsized to two girls: Kristy and Mallory? That would have been no fun...I'm glad the club didn't break up for good.

I had to laugh when Stacey only agreed to reform for club because she needed the money. Also Abby is pretty funny in this one too.

I love this book. It's really overdramatic and Kristy is being a complete drama queen throughout the whole thing.
However,I did feel bad for Kristy when Jackie Rodowsky hurt himself. The guilt must've been unbearable.

I have so many problems with this book . Where to even start?
Abby is just so rude to Kristy and Kristy I think was jealous that Abby had a good idea of a festival and was jealous. So she comes up with the idea of a fall festival even though they just learned there's hardly anything left in the treasury. So how were they supposed to get art supplies and other things??
Kristy needed to be flexible and accept change. Abby needs to stop being so rude.
