aww, I didn't think that scene was too over the top. The BSC was Kristy's LIFE, I think I would've reacted similarly in her situation. Stupid Claudia raising her hand first. Aww reading that makes me sad

Reading that now I think its hilariously dramatic, but when I was 10 years old I think I read that one part over and over because I just could NOT believe it . Haha. I thought it was lame the way they got back together though. Wrapped up too quick .

I haven't read this book in awhile, and I think I only read it once when I did -- is there any reason Claudia raised her hand first? Like, did she want the BSC to break up the most or something?

maybe because of her school problems piling up? she DID get sent back to 7th grade in the next book.

It is realistic that it would get to a point where the BSC would want more time for schoolwork and other activities... but I remember when I first read this book, I felt really uncomfortable reading it. I guess it was the idea of the BSC breaking up I couldn't get my head around. All of the members kinda drove me insane - Kristy, Claudia and Abby in particular, Kristy with her explosive reactions to everything, Claudia's stupidity and her attitude towards Mary Anne throughout the whole book, and Abby and her annoying Abbiness. Also Mal and Jessi bugged me because they were the ones who wanted to do activities on BSC days and made a bollocks of things. Found Claudia's can't be assed attitude in general v annoying aussi.
Yeah... what was it with maple sugaring? Why did Kristy think this would be such a great idea?

Yeah... what was it with maple sugaring? Why did Kristy think this would be such a great idea? It's no more bizarre than any of Kristy's other little "activities" she's arranged for neighborhood kids - activities that have been a HUGE success

I liked the fact that one of Kristy's "great" ideas turned out to be totally impractical and not feasible.

What exactly is maple sugaring? I don't get it at all.

What exactly is maple sugaring? I don't get it at all. I think they're talking about when people go into the woods and find maple trees and drill a hole into the trunk and get the sap from the tree, which is maple syrup. Or something like that.

^ It could mean a visit to a sugar bush- or "cabane a sucre".
There is a process by which tree sap becomes maple syrup- it needs to be boiled down, filtered, etc. Up here in the great white north (eh), there are various farms that you can visit to see this process, and then eat fresh maple syrup over snow. We try to go at least once a winter, because it actually is a lot of fun. And it is fun for kids.....
Yep, I know I'm a loser.
.....but I'm not sure if Kristy actually meant visiting a sugar bush (man oh man, I love the name), or if she thought she could just bring the kids into the forest and put a hole in a tree, expecting maple syrup to come out.

I thought the big idea in this book was apple picking, wasn't it? And Kristy was planning on hanging apples on trees because she couldn't find real apple trees?

Wow. I have never in my life heard of maple-sugaring. It sounds weird. Then again, I live in Arizona. We don't really have trees or snow, we have cacti.

This whole book had sort of an "It's a Wonderful Life" quality to it. It's almost like we get to see what life would be like without the BSC, but it's really just some sort of bad dream or something.

Haha they should have made the book more like It's a Wonderful Life. Kristy getting all ticked off thinking she's a "rotten" babysitter for Jackie falling off the tree and the other BSC members seeming like they don't give a crap about the BSC anymore (which does happen in the book) and then an angel comes and shows Kristy what the world (well Stoneybrook) would be like without the BSC
