I just reread this book and didn't really care for it. I guess it felt kind of forced - like the authors got to book 100 and said "we need to find a way to break up the club" so they put in the stuff about Kristy feeling guilty about Jackie, girls not having time, etc. The girls faced worse crises in other books and had worse fights and never broke up, so I just had trouble buying it. Then it felt like towards the end of the book, someone said "good news! We can do more books from this series" so the authors just kind of wrapped things up. Don't know - just my feeling on it.

You'd think that if that were the case, they could've just rewritten the books... It's not like they're very long or anything

This would have been a terrible book to end the series with it.

I'm not sure if it's in this book, but eventualy, the BSC is only form by Kristy, Claudia, Stacey and Mary-Ann. What I don't understand is how come they're not overwelmed by phone calls for jobs? It's not because the club down-sized that the clients did as well.

Yeah that part has always really puzzled me... hmm maybe most of the kids they sat for escaped the infamous Stoneybrook Time Warp and grew up ahead of the BSC ;D

Now that I think about it, it is puzzling why they weren't slammed by clients when it went back to the four of them...it doesn't make sense.

They don't really mention the clients at all in the FF series... Maybe all the Stoneybrook parents suddenly decided to play a more active role in their children's lives?

I've been reading the FF series lately, and in Claudia and the Friendship Feud (which I really liked, by the way -- some of the other FF books suck), they call Erica Blumberg for backup a couple of times. They need two sitters for the Pikes and only Claudia is free. Also, in the book before this one (I think), they seem to be calling Logan for backup more than they used to, even though he has officially quit the club. Really, he's an associate member who helps out more than ever now that there are fewer regular members, but he claims not to be a member of the club. I suppose they stop needing to call other sitters near the end of the FF series, but this is near the beginning.

Rereading this book, and wow, Kristy's maple sugaring plan is idiotic. Claudia-worthy, in fact -- she suggests purchasing processed maple syrup, watering it down so it's diluted to the same concentration of maple sap from the tree, and then BOILING THE DILUTED SYRUP to evaporate the water and get regular maple syrup. So -- what, the kids were going to sit there watching syrup boil until only 2.5% of the liquid is left? (Kristy says 40 gallons of sap make 1 gallon of syrup.) No wonder the kids told her it would be boring when she tried to get them to help her set up for the festival by tying apples to trees.
The whole book reads like a BSC parody -- it all seems very OTT ("Picasso's theory of Einstein," "I am D-E-D"). I can imagine it being the script of a Disney sitcom.

I know Claudia was more thick than usual in this book, it was kinda frightening Also, I think the answer to Kristy's strange moodiness is obvious even though it's not mentioned... PMS.

I suppose I am in the minority here in that I did not have much sympathy for Kristy in this book. She was downright mean and unreasonable. Telling Jessi that she would have to choose between the BSC and the ballet class when Jessi had no control over the class time instead of being flexible and letting Jessi miss the meetings was just wrong imo.
Kristy could have been flexible but she chose not to be. Then when Kristy flipped over people having doctor/dentist appointments that conflicted with club times I was really annoyed with her. She yells at them for breaking the agreement to make club meeting times untouchable but come on now how many 11 and 13 year olds really have control over when they can make doctor appointments? Your parents are making the appointment and you pretty much have to go at their convenience when it comes to those kinds of things at that age. I didn't get any control of my doctor or dentist visits until I was 18 and no longer a minor. Kristy refused to budge at all even when Abby pointed out how easy it would be to book an absent member for a job.
I also agreed when Shannon told Kristy she was going overboard flipping out over everyone's schedules. Kristy was acting like she was some kind of martyr for dropping everything to babysit and acting like babysitting should be everyone's only priority. I agree that they all made a big commitment to their clients etc when they joined the club but I think Kristy was forgetting that they were just kids sometimes with how serious she took the club.
Kristy reminded me of a junky after the breakup of the club when she was going through withdrawals and struggling not to call a nonexistent meeting to order.

^ Actually, I agree about Kristy being pretty unresonable about the dr. appts and class schedules. Dr. appts are not only usually scheduled by your parents but anything other than just normal checkups often have to be whenever they can get you in (and if you don't want this time, they treat you like you're doing something wrong and not "trying" to get well or take care of yourself ;D- at least in my family's experience.) Also agree that Abby and Shannon were right. I like Kristy most of the time but this was one of my least favorite books of her for these reasons. In fact, it is one of my least favorite books.

I never realized what a control freak Kristy was before reading this thread.

I remember buying this book, ripping the shrink wrap away and hastily flipping to the inside back cover to see if there would be a book #101. HAHA hilarious
