Now that I think about it, Janine seemed to come to Claudia's rescue quite a bit, what a good big sister.

And yet Claudia was so mean to her, the whole while feeling like a victim.
Dang. Claudia was a really lousy sister.

^ Agreed. It definitely should have been "Janine and Mean Claudia" and "Janine Keeps Claudia in Middle School" ;D

I've never read this one, as it was past my time...but I always had that general impression of Janine too. It was like the only reason Claudia didn't like her was because she wore normal clothes and was smart. (And talked weirdly because of it, although I have known actual geniuses in my life, and you'd never know it in regular conversation, so I really don't know what Ann & Co. were aiming for...)

I’m conflicted on my thoughts on this one. I do feel sorry for Claudia, especially with not being able to go to the dance. At the same time, her whole attitude towards school and lack of caring and effort really makes me mad. I tend to have very little sympathy for people who don’t try their hardest because I can’t relate and can’t understand. I do think the Kishis are all pretty supportive in this one, especially letting her take the class with Serena McKay. I really like Serena’s talk with Claudia and hope it got through to her. I enjoyed the hospital buddies program and think it sounds like a great thing. I wonder if they continued it.

I loved the descriptions of all the Halloween stuff in this book! Claudia's tutor really told her the truth.

^ I loved Rosa the tutor in this one. I wonder if she kept tutoring Claudia or if that fizzled out. I think with some effort, Claudia could succeed. If I was tutoring her, I would have strangled her. I can't stand it when kids won't try - especially when they have the ability.

I actually like this one quite a bit. Although I was slightly disappointed to learn that Claudia didn't actually drop out of school, since that would've been more interesting. But anyway. I've always had a lot of trouble with math, to the point of being sent to special ed (or the "Learning Centre," as they called it in my school) and taking the remedial (or "Applied") classes during high school. And I've been tested, and I do in fact have a learning disability in math. It's not the same as being sent back, but I can totally relate to Claud and how she feels in this one. Feeling really stupid is one of the worst things to feel.
Claudia definitely has a learning disability, but either way her attitude stinks. I was told that I would never be able to go to university since I was taking applied math classes. But look who's got her B.A. (with Honours!) now? Hahaha! Claudia definitely could succeed if she got over herself and actually tried. But as bad as it sounds, it was nice to see someone in the BSC suck at something. It made her more relatable, to me at least.

I actually liked this book, too, fluffycakes, although I agree about Claudia's lack of effort being frustrating. My stepbrother's attitude toward school is similar to Claudia's. I know he's smart enough to do well, but he just doesn't put forth the effort. He always says, "Well, when am I ever going to need this stuff, anyway?" I think both he and Claudia could do well if they put their minds to it. By the way, way to go on getting your B.A. with honors!

Hehe Okay just started and i know the time warp has been mentioned many many MANY times on these boards, but I couldn't help but giggle about Claudia talkign about last year...as if she'd been in seventh grade... *eye roll* I just find it so deliciously ridiculous... .... but after awhile it gets extremely annoying that they'er takling like they JUST got out of seventh grade...when they've gone through 8th grade like...10 times by then?

^ I noticed the 7th grade thing too and tried to overlook it but it is hard. ;D Even though I feel for Claudia in this one, her attitude just bugs me. I think my favorite part is the subplot and the whole Halloween atmosphere, which is why I just reread it. ;D

^ I never considered that but your right. Claudia probably didn't think of it, either, or maybe she was trying to make a "statement" by pouting and just not going. ;D

^hmm, you're right. MA could have said to Logan, "Please take Claud so she can be with us."

^ ;D He's such a good sport that he would have, too. I would think that Pete or Austin or Trevor or someone else would have taken her. She must just not have wanted to go or didn't even think of it.
