And it would have made for an interesting plot seeing as the BSC would have had to hold meetings while Claud could not be in the club OR they had to move their meetings elsewhere.

haha, keeping the meetings in claudia's room while she has to sit downstairs doing homework would be so funny.

It would have been interesting to have had the meetings moved somewhere else... let's say to Mary Anne's house, or Stacey's house, or whatever. Even for just a book or two to spice things up.

I think Claudia's parents should definitely have made her quit the BSC or at least on taking jobs; the compromise might have been she could attend meetings assuming she didn't have something school-related to do. Once her grades/attitude improved, perhaps she could have accepted one job a week instead of (probably) 2-3. Does that sound right in terms of number of jobs a week per sitter? This isn't including "special" jobs where one sitter was scheduled with a charge over an period of time, just in general. I really don't see how giving up one job a week would be so awful for Claudia.
Back on topic, ITA that changing locations would have "spiced" things up Virgo. I also found it hard to believe that weather never factored into a (or more than one) BSC Member(s) not being able to attend a meeting. I said something similar to this in the Snowbound thread about sitting jobs in general but also parents being delayed.

If changing the location for the meetings happened in the books, what location do you think they should have met? Or do you think that for each meeting they should've changed locations until they decided where to hold their meetings until they were able to hold meetings in Claudia's room?

well, we know claudia's family had call forwarding, so deciding to hold their meetings somewhere else wouldn't have been an issue at all, except for having to share the line.

They probably would have gone to Mary Anne and Dawn's house since they did so many events there anyway.

stacey and abby's houses would also be good because nobody is ever home there.

I really did feel for Claudia in this book. I was an extremely lazy student, so I can understand her complete disenchantment with the subjects she's learning, and I certainly understand feeling so lost you feel you'll never catch up. However, when Claudia goes from 48% to 57%, it's still considered a failing grade! Fifty percent is a pass! And that's a huge improvement.
I found the "seventh graders are so babyish!" mentality very contrived. These kids are a year apart! Surely no real Year 8 cohort, even when they're top dogs, is that conceited.

^ In my school system, anything under 60% was considered an F, and therefore a failing grade. Maybe Stoneybrook had the same rules?

^Same for my school district - a 57% (anything under a 64%) would have still been a fail. I'll bet the authors would have had Claud's parents make her temporarily quit the club, except that the meetings were held in her room and the authors couldn't find a way around that.

Oh, okay, that makes more sense. My school and (AFAIK) state had 50% or above as a pass. Thanks!

^ Mine too. I always thought that makes more sense anyway. I you get 65/100, for example, you have more than half of the answers correct so that should technically be a pass (if you're just looking at it from a percentage perspective).

I think my district was as high as 68 for an F. A 50 sounds so low to me to get a passing grade.
