Never a particularly good book, even by Jessi standards. All a bit strange and incredibly unrealistic, and Jessi's constant bragging about her ballet expertise ('I've been studying ballet since I was four...') didn't help too much. The plot was also later ripped off in Stacey and the Fashion Victim. And again, a baby-sitter deals with a creepy stalker without Mom and Dad finding out a thing about it all.
However, I knew the book deserved a thread of its own once I dug up this little gem:
XD!

I think the ghostwriter was attempting the first ever BSC parody fanfiction. A worthy effort on their part!

This was the first Jessi book I ever read and it was pretty much aaaaall about ballet. How boring for someone not interested. Also she really should've told somebody. And the chapter about the BSC in the dark watching creeped me out!

I don't think anyone could mistake me for a robot- and not just because I'm not always in perfect form. As far as I know, there aren't too many black robots running around... In fact, there are probably even fewer black robots then there are black ballerinas.
That quote makes the book almost worth reading! ;D
The book sends a negative message to the intended audience. Pranks are being played, causing Jessi to injure herself and have expensive stuff stolen, but Jessi thinks it's wise to make sure her parents don't find out in order to avoid "worrying".
I would not appreciate my child keeping such major issues from me at 11 yrs old!! What was wrong with the Ramseys? How indifferent and uninvolved were they, not to realise something was going on?

Seriously, it's their responsibility as parents to worry!
I didn't really like the mystery in this one. It got solved a bit too easily, I thought.

This book was a bit far-fetched. I mean the "pranks" that were freaking dangerous and illegal! I cannot believe that Jessi would keep that stuff from her parents.

I didn't really like the mystery in this one. It got solved a bit too easily, I thought. It was insanely predictable, that's for sure. Or even if she DID, Jessi's parents should've found out the truth at the end and given her a lecture on the importance of discussing any fears/concerns she might have, you know, so as to pass on the right message to the intended audience. Children should not be encouraged to keep serious stuff from their parents. Really bad example, Ann and fellow ghostwriter.

It really *is* so much easier to swallow when you think of the BSC as older than 11 and 13, isn't it?

^Definitely. Thinking of them as 11 and 13 just brings on WAY too many headaches!

It really *is* so much easier to swallow when you think of the BSC as older than 11 and 13, isn't it? We're reminded of their ages and grades so frequently that I simply can't think of them as being anything other than 11 or 13

Yeah, but maybe Stoneybrook 11 and 13 is really Real Life 21 and 23. They *are* stuck in a time warp after all...

I always still think of them as 11 and 13 too. Plus there are some instances where they act their age - the girls (esp Mal) being nervous around boys, the younger girls being so submissive to the older ones... but then I see an ACTUAL 11 or 13 year old, or think of myself at that age, and like hitzpink said, the headaches come on!

I usually think of them as 14 and 16. I could still imagene 14 year olds being submissive to 16 year olds, and even 16 year olds can act like such little kids sometimes (I was 16 last year and I remember me acting childish every now and then) although some things may be a little too 'young' for sixteen or fourten. Still, I don't even feel comfortable thinking of them as 1 and 13.

I kinda liked this cause someone was out to get Jessi and not because she's black. The whole "teacher needs a wet floor sign even though the janitor should have one of those himself so she asked me to ask you to make one, and by the way do you have a brightly colored pen so we can all read it? You do? Aha! You're the culprit!" ending was stupid. Jessi picked up her detective skills from Claudia.

I dunno. I kind of liked this one because they mentioned caligraphy. And yeah, I thought the ending was stupid also. It just seemed odd that a janitor would ask students for a pen. I dunno if I were that girl I would have found that kind of fishy.
