I am glad I am not the only one that wants pizza when they read this! I may have to get some this weekend now!
The girls were very endearing in this book, I love it.

Stacey's outfit was cute but kind of young (I think she was wearing a matching shirt and skirt made out of gray sweatshirt material with big yellow number 10's all over it and silver earrings shaped like whistles). I always liked that outfit. I wouldn't wear it now or anything, but I could totally see early series Stacey wearing it. In fact, I always liked picturing that whole scene of Stacey sitting at Kristy's and meeting Sam as I read.

I always liked Stacey's outfit there as well. The whistles earrings especially sounded cute!

Haha, I always liked to picture the scene of Stacey sitting at Kristy's and meeting Sam, too! I think it's one of my favorite parts of the book. I wish Stacey and Sam became a steady couple in the series. Even though Sam is two years older, they make a cute couple . Then again I don't think the age difference doesn't matter since she was dating a guy named Ethan who was two years older than her.

Exactly! I thought in KGI he seemed more like 3 or 4 possibly because of the close interactions with Kristy. In later books as all of you know, that doesn't happen again. I mean there are usually 3 other kids at least besides DM that Kristy or whoever is sitting for. I sadly don't recall Kristy or anyone ever taking him to the brook (she and MA and Louie take DM to go wading in the brook near Kristy's old house) again. I certainly don't remember anyone making just him an afterschool snack before. I am a DM fan and have always felt badly that as the series went on he seemed to fade away. I also wonder if the writers decided to make him sound older so that his friendship with 9 year old Linny would be more believable. I think Bill Korman was also 9. Interesting to think about.

Now that I think about it, David Michael did come across as younger in this book. As the series progressed he seemed to act older than his age at times.

^ He reads as a ten year old most of the time, not 7.

I agree, he always does sound like a 10 year old in most of the books.

Almost 28 years later this book definitely holds up in terms of nostalgia. I did reread and actually think David Michael (6) sounded younger at times than Karen who in this was 5. I feel badly about saying that because DM was thrilled when Karen guessed he was eight. One thing that jumped out at me this time around was that on page 125 Karen tells Kristy that her mom (Lisa) and Seth are NOT yet married. I had always thought Lisa and Seth had married a while back. I double checked and on page 119, Kristy tells us on page 119 that the reason Watson had to rush over to the hospital was that Lisa's future second husband was out of town. Is there an early BSC that mentions that they got married? I'll have to keep an eye out for that and also Karen's age. In this she is 5 (Andrew is 3) and in Kindergarten. Karen's teachers are planning to move her into first grade after the holidays. I will also always love this book because Mimi and Louie are healthy in it and, of course, because it literally did give us the BSC.

After rereading this book, I noticed that Kristy and David Michael seemed to have a much closer brother-sister relationship than in the later books. Kristy never took DM to the brook to go wading, make him an after-school snack just for him, etc again. It makes sense for them to be not as close since in the later books Kristy had to babysit Karen, Andrew, and Emily Michelle too. But I wish that they could have shown more of Kristy and DM's relationship and less of Kristy and Karen's relationship.

DM does sound like 10 year old at times. Just rereading Karen's School Surprise. Some of the chapters, he act like his ages and other times, he act like a 10 year old boy. This book, I'll have to reread again to refresh my memory.

also Karen's age. In this she is 5 (Andrew is 3) and in Kindergarten. Karen's teachers are planning to move her into first grade after the holidays. Really? I thought Karen skipped most of first grade to be in the second grade in LS books.

Karen's age/year in school has a way of changing and quick. I hadn't realized until becoming an LS fan and reading all the books the last couple years that indeed in KGI, the above is true. Karen should have (during Kristy's 7th grade year) completed 1st grade and probably turned 6. The next Fall (1st of 13 years of 8th grade for the BSC), Karen should have been 6 going on 7. We recently discussed Karen's age in one of her birthday book threads and how in some parts of the country ages/school years can vary. In KIMCC Teacher's Pet, Karen is in 1st grade for one week before joining Ms. Colman's class. From Karen's Half Birthday, it sounds like her half birthday is at the end of October, making her actual birthday in April. I'm realizing now that Karen turning 7 while most of her friends were closer to 8, was possibly something the ghostwriters didn't think of. Because the "next" year at the start of 2nd grade, Karen would already be 7 (more traditional age to start 2nd). Maybe we should have read about her 6th birthday instead.

^ That will make sense. Read about Karen's 6th birthday.

I also noticed about Karen's age. That always bugged me because she was supposed to be 6, going on 7 most of the series.
