I wonder why so many guys were named John. Did Ann just not care about the guy's names?

I guess it's a good thing that Ann's friends had such average names if they really were used to name all these characters. It would be rather suspicious to have multiple characters named, like, Beyonce and Jay-Z.

The more "fancy" guys names don't come until later in the series: Ethan, Ewan, etc.

^I don't know that for sure, Greer. I've just always assumed the real-life Perkins couple was why Ann infested Stoneybrook with so many Johns and Elizabeths.

Or maybe because John is a really common or staple name... kind of like John or Jane Doe?

Is John really that common of a name?

The more "fancy" guys names don't come until later in the series: Ethan, Ewan, etc. Those names also weren't as popular until the 90s.

I thought of this book the other day! The Deputy Head at the school had to give an assembly on Kwaanza and he came in the office saying "I know nothing about Kwaanza, nothing and I have to give an assembly" so I told him lots of information! When he asked how I knew, I felt a bit too embarassed to say from the BSC...!

^ You should have! I ask people if they were into the BSC all the time, haha.

I'm the same virgoscorpio, my teacher last year loved me because I used to ask about things like BSC and Hanson instead of 1 Direction and Twilight. What can I say I was born a decade too late I really enjoyed this book because I relate to the whole fighting in the family thing and I also liked learning about Kwanzaa, which isn't a thing here but I thought seemed pretty interesting.

I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet: On page 92 when they're listing Mal's siblings and ages, they say Nicky is 9 and Vanessa is 8! ;D

I honestly don't mean for this to come across as offensive in any way, but it struck me as interesting that not only did all the African-American families suddenly appear for this one, but they all live in Kristy's neighborhood and go to Karen's fancy private school. It seemed strange that none of them go to the public schools or live in the non-millionaire neighborhoods (except the Ramseys!).

Perhaps it was a way to explain why we'd never seen these families before?

In the early part of the series, we hear how there are no black families in Stoneybrook and all of a sudden - they appear! And they're rich! Which is great, but not consistent with the rest of the series.
