I loved the old cover as well. I liked seeing Kristy's interaction with Emily Michelle and David Michael. Since Kristy was so into sports and all I was thinking that her bedroom would be tomboyish.

This one was the most boring BSC book I've ever read. I wanted it to be over! I don't think it would have so tiresome if they excluded the Jamie Newton subplot. I don't know anyone who was that silly about riding a bike, and I think Jamie was a bit young. My childhood friends and I didn't ditch the training wheels until we were six.

man, you guys make me feel like such a loser. i learned how to ride a bike on my 10th birthday. my mom took my sister and me to the playground to celebrate, and eventually i got the hang of it.
i love jamie, but i seriously would not have put up with him. that was so messed up when he got mad at dawn and accused her of dropping him. i can understand how frustrating it is to be a kid and wanting to grow up, but my parents NEVER let me talk to anybody that way. but then at the end, he's his usual cheerful self again, so i can't really stay mad at him.

I actually didn't mind this one. I had to laugh at Kristy when she's sitting there picturing a school run by Alan and she decides she has to 'save the eighth grade'! :-) I also wasn't a fan of Jamie in this sub plot, he just seemed extra whiny and annoying when usually he isn't that bad. Lucy always sounds so cute.

Anyone else love the part where Alan Gray tells everyone at assembly to stand up, sit down again, then he announces "I just proved what a good leader I am. You all just did what I told you to! Vote for me!"
Or how about Alan walking around covered in purple balloons on campaign day, letting people stick pins in them?

I think I would have voted for Alan just because of his creativity. People in my school did absolutely nothing except make a few required posters to announce their candidacy.

I probably would have voted for him, too. After all, the kids don't really have power to do much of anything as class officers. At least Alan as class president would be good for a few laughs every now and then.

Those were my fav parts of the book as well! :-) Even though i didn't really like the sub plot that much, the Alan scenes made it worth reading. I wish we would have had campaigns like that at my school when they were electing the captain and prefects, it would have been fun!

I don't think I got my first two wheeler until I was 8. I remember practicing in the garage of the apartment building I lived in and my Grandpa cheering me on/watching me. The sad thing is I haven't ridden a bike in at least 15 years and lol might not even remember how. I know it is said once you know, you never forget but it sure has been a while.
The best part of the subplot were the older kids who helped Jamie at the end--too bad they didn't appear earlier.
I agree about Alan and think he might have actually gotten something done. Did we ever hear if Pete did anything as President besides host the awards night in Kristy and the Missing Child?

I thought Jamie was really young to be riding a bike on his own too. I was 6 or 7 when I got rid of the training wheels. I remember in 1st grade, my teacher asked who could ride w/o training wheels and I was embarrassed that I couldn't, so I raised my hand anyway.

^That was mean of the teacher to ask.
