I also like the whole idea of missing your parents, starrynight. I am really close with mine and miss my dad terribly when he goes away for business so can relate to MA with that. I can't even imagine being separated from my mom for a long time, dad either, so it's a good thing that his business trips are rare and short. ;D I did feel for MA with Richard being gone and can kind of understand where she was coming from - I am not pleasant to be around either when I'm feeling down and in a bad mood ;D - which is maybe why reading about it annoyed me. ;D

I'm reading this, and I have got to say: This book is terrible. I have never felt this way about these books before. Everyone is so OOC and there is hardly any interaction between the sitters and WTF, none of these girls except for Claudia want to sleep in during their summer? They are 13! I was always getting up early, but most of my friends always slept late. I eventually trained myself to just go back to sleep until they got up (when sleeping over)

^ I really don't like this one, either. It seems really depressing and kind of pointless. I don't like the kids from Ms Colman's class who are in it, either, because they seem really out of character. This was disappointing because I usually love them. Definitely one of my least favorite BSC books but I actually dislike it so much that I tend to overlook it when thinking of my least favorites. I prefer to forget it exists. (though I probably will reread this summer - I always do ;D) ;D

Mary Anne was annoying as all heck in this book, and why would the regualars not need sitters.. It sucked on ice.

This is probably why I didn't read this book, and forgot about it's existence until I saw this thread. Yes, this is the only BSC book that I own that I have NOT read all the way through because it simply won't catch my attention. Now I want to read it, though, lol. Just so I can properly see all this Karen b*tchyness, Mary Anne mopeyness, etc. But I can't, because it's at my house (I'm currently living in an apartment in the city for university). Ah well, next time I'm home, I'll have to hunt for it.

I know I come to this board too much because the whole time I was reading this, I was wondering why all the Mary Anne lovers on here like her so much. This could have been interesting. They had eight sitters in the same place at the same time for the whole book, and yet it was all Mary Anne and Alicia. I'll be damned if they didn't visit that stupid goat Elvira again. I hate that goat.
Kristy, is it really such a brilliant idea to do a generic version of something that half of the participating kids have already done? Of course they're going to compare the two. (I read that LS circus camp book, and it was dumb too. Rich kids go to weird camps sometimes. Lol)
A little inconsistency: Mary Anne got sick of take out and made herself a hamburger. Dawn smiled at her and got the ketchup and mustard out of the fridge for her. No rude comment at all? Boo.

Ha!
I remember really liking this book when I read it a few years ago. Well, I reread it recently and it was awful. I don't know what was wrong with past me.
The Alicia storyline was annoying. After the second day, the BSC should have told Mrs. Gianelli to not bring her back. She was just a big pain all day long. And Mary Anne's entire focus had to be on her. Of course, Mary Anne was a huge enabler, which isn't surprising.
So, Sharon and the girls cook solely for Richard? Nice.
I thought Sharon and Dawn's extreme enthusiasm over being "bachelor girls" was bizarre. Not for Dawn, really, but for Sharon. She and Richard are newlyweds. I know she finally tells Mary Anne, "Oh, yeah, I miss him so much, too..." but that certainly never came across in her earlier behavior or comments. I find the Sharon/Richard relationship and Schafer-Spier family dynamics bizarre in general.
And as usual, I wanted to drop kick Karen Brewer. Kristy should have sent her home.

I read this book a long time ago and I only read it once because it was such a dumb book, with everyone being OOC. Plus, the book wasn't even overly interesting.

I think Sharon's whole fascination with living like a bachelor girl was because she was so thrilled that she didn't have to pretend to care about having a clean house anymore. And Sharon...I'm single and my apartment doesn't look like a dump. Being single doesn't mean it's an excuse to leave garbage and food everywhere! I snarked this book recently for the snark LJ and this is THE prime example of how the BSC indulges Karen. She spends the whole camp whining and complaining about the circus, she makes fun of Vanessa and Alicia, and even calls the BSC's idea dumb many times. The BSC never says one thing to her except for the weakest of weak talking-to's. And even then, there's no "You've been rude to everyone here!" community.livejournal.com/bsc_snark/74537.htmlThat's the last part of the snark where the BSC lets the kids walk all over them. You know, there's being meanies, and then there's being assertive and showing the kids you're in charge. They're two different things, BSC! And I'm a Mary Anne fan and I could not STAND her in this book! She was so freakin whiny and being such a huge baby over the fact that her dad was gone for 2 weeks. My friend's dad is gone for months at a time on work and she doesn't spend the whole time pouting and complaining! Mary Anne even asks him not to travel so frequently anymore...this is the first time we ever hear of him going on a business trip! ARGH!

I was so annoyed by Sharon in this book. Well, by everyone, really. I tried to reread this one recently and I just couldn't do it, it's so bad. I hate any storyline involving the Gianellis. I just don't like them. Especially Alicia. They're just completely boring, whiny kids.

I read it once again and never again. I still have the book and it looks brand new 13 years later! I rolled my eyes at how clingy mary anne was being too that time and getting upset and grouchy over it being all girls in the family.

I don't read the threads for the books I haven't read yet, so I've been skipping this one as it's popped to the top of the page recently. Suddenly it hit me that, yeah, I did read this one and not even that long ago either. Awesome book.

I could understand how Mary Anne felt about Richard going on his business trip. When I was a kid, I would get upset when my dad would go out of town, even for a couple of days. I didn't like the plot about the camp. Just too boring for me.

At the beginning of the book, it says she feels closer to her dad ever since he stopped treating her like a baby. It's normal for kids or teens missing their parents. Her dad said he'd be traveling less.
