Just finished rereading this one and it's just as bad as Maid Mary-Anne.
Mary-Anne was such a whiny baby in this one! She was acting more like 11 than 13 years old and did I mention so whiny?? At least Dawn and Sharon had fun, Mary-Anne just laid around and sulked most of the time and even took it out on the clients at "camp".
And what is with Karen's snotty attitude in this book? So OOC. :/

Karen was such an awful brat. Then again, when isn't she? I just couldn't believe that the BSC let her and her snotty friends walk all over them. I know initially, I think it's Mary Anne and Mallory who try doing something when they tell them, "Ok. If you don't want to be in the circus, that's fine. You can sit on the side on watch" and that's when Karen says they need to be in the circus so it won't be AS dumb. Like...any other kid would have been scolded or at least got spoken to. The BSC indulges Karen so much and this book is the worst example. Unless they're so sick of dealing with her they just tune her out XD Mary Anne was super whiny in the book too. Though I couldn't blame her for getting sick of Sharon and Dawn baching it. Not the takeout food but the fact that Sharon took Richard being away as an excuse to not clean up. Mary Anne made it sound like the house was a mess, they didn't even bother replacing the toilet paper. And then Sharon takes the good dishes out for dinner one night because she hasn't bothered doing the dishes. That's gross!

It seems that no matter how snotty Karen and her friends acted, the BSC still indulged them. They should have been sent home for their terrible attitudes.

I don't get why they didn't tell Karen and the other circus snobs that they need to cut it out. Especially once Karen started making fun of the other campers. After they finally "lecture" them during the dress rehearsal when they realize Karen and her friends were ruining all the acts, Kristy said "We'll talk later" to her. Which I assume means "We'll tell Watson when we get home and he'll find a way to reward you somehow." Also, I know Jackie is clumsy but some of these authors write him like he's a cartoon character and mayhem follows him wherever he goes.

Watson will probably figure out a way to victim blame the other campers and treat Karen to another round of circus camp for her "pain and suffering" in Camp BSC. And Karen and her friends will probably continue to bully the other clients in future BSC events and the BSC will turn a blind eye.

Like, she's a brat, but she's never really been a bully. Only exception is how she acts two-faced to Natalie Springer and will make rude comments about her droopy socks behind her back. But Natalie was a bully in this too!

Who is that even supposed to be? XD I think Jamie plays a tiger in the circus so that could be him.

Nearly done with this for my Tumblr and oh my GOD I forgot how awful Karen and her friends are. They're openly rude and mean to everyone at Camp BSC, including the sitters and the other campers. And the BSC did absolutely nothing to scold them or discipline them until they ruined most of the acts in the dress rehearsal and Karen whipped out a saw because she had to do a REAL circus act. Which made it sound like she was planning to dismember Nancy XD
Like, I wasn't expecting the girls to take the circus snobs over their knees and spank them. But at least scold them for being nasty and rude to everyone! There's such a double standard when it comes to Karen

I haven't read this book in years because I would rather pretend it doesn't exist. Where did she get the saw from? And how did nobody see a 7 year old with a handsaw?

I haven't read this book in years because I would rather pretend it doesn't exist. Where did she get the saw from? And how did nobody see a 7 year old with a handsaw? Karen said she found it in the barn which is even more ridiculous because you'd think if the BSC were such good babysitters, they'd go through the barn and notice if they saw sharp tools lying around! And then Karen explained she needed it because she had to do a REAL circus act. I'm surprised Kristy didn't strangle her right then and there but Karen always gets away with murder. Kristy and Mary Anne gave a very very weak talking-to then the BSC and other campers ran around like crazy to save the circus after the circus snobs ruined things. This book made me hate Karen more than I already do

I dreaded reading this one because I hated it when I was younger, but honestly, I didn't think it was that bad this time around. I'm finding I like most of the summer books, mostly for nostalgia.
I actually liked Dawn in this book... she really does seem laid-back. So weird that she eats turkey dogs, though. Also, why do they have to serve turkey dogs at the cookout because she ain't eat beef or pork ones? Why can't they just serve multiple kinds? Weird.
I think most people are annoyed by Mary Anne's behavior in this book, and I don't think it's the best depiction of her character or anything... but I kind of get it. She's probably dealing with separation issues after Dawn's stay in California and after Stacey left. I think this could have been done better, but overall it didn't bother me that much. And tbh I'd also be annoyed with takeout containers everywhere. Also, I just can't read "bach" as "batch," I read it like the composer's name. So for some reason the phrase "bach it" just sounds kind of stupid in my head. Idk.
Karen and her friends were so annoying. No one cares that you went to "real" circus camp. The camp chapters aren't that bad otherwise, though, and the cookout/ ghost story night sounds fun.
I'm kind of annoyed by something. This one was published the same month as Baby-sitters Haunted House. Both of them take place at the beginning of summer, this one actually starting when exams were going. Claudia states in Haunted House that "summer vacation has just started." I guess we can assume that Haunted House happens right after, but three weeks passes in this one and thus Claud saying that doesn't make as much sense. Also, they are totally swamped in Haunted House, but at the end of Camp BSC, several families are going on vacation. I might be just having a major goof here, but this just doesn't add up lol.
So yeah, not bad, just not a particularly exciting one.

I get that Mary Anne was upset and had separation issues, she's really close with her dad and on top of that was getting really annoyed with Sharon. I couldn't blame her there, Sharon let everything get messy and was being really over the top about baching it! And I read "baching" it the same way, as the composer XD

I don't understand why she would eat a hot dog at all. She ate hot dogs a couple times because they were her only options, so why (when she had the option to plan the menu) would she choose a food she hates?
Do turkey dogs taste enough like hot dogs that everyone else wouldn't notice or mind?
