^I don't really remember. I might have written three pages before I stopped. I'm pretty sure that I knew it was about Kristy running for school president and not actual politics.

I loved Shelley Golden also. Re-reading Mary Anne to the Rescue recently gave me a theory. I suspect Shelley Golden is the granddaughter of Becky Golden from Hope Street. The book Becky's Horse is set in a large town in Connecticut that sounds a lot like Stoneybrook, but is set in the Depression-era 1930s. Both Becky and Shelley even have similar dark hair...I wonder. I wonder what Stoneybrook was like during the Great Depression?

Not my favorite Mary Anne book. Not the most interesting premise with again 2 subplots. One of them is really dumb and the other goes nowhere.
There is the infamous pierced ears mistake in chapter 2. I've actually noticed this elsewhere but forgot to note it. It's annoying, because it reads like Mary Anne finally stood up to her father, but in Summer Vacation, she was just too squeamish to get it done.
The safety course stuff was okay. Alan Gray and Irv provided some comedy, but I couldn't figure out why they were there. Reading about Mary Anne constantly being squeamish wasn't fun either. Dawn was also pretty insufferable, needing to know Logan and Mary Anne's business and volunteering Mary Anne as a victim, and lecturing people about food (coming from a vegetarian who hardly ever drinks soda, shut up Dawn). I seem to remember there being some more interesting Schafer/ Spier dynamics here, but there actually aren't any.
Mary Anne saving Timmy Hsu from drowning actually was pretty exciting to read about, if a bit predictable. Of course she's going to have to face an actual emergency lol. In some ways, it's actually pretty consistent with the series. Mary Anne already proved she can be counted on in a crisis and Dawn tends to freeze up (not taking a dig at her BTW. I do too). In a way this is realistic, since people behave differently than you'd expect in a crisis.
The Logan subplot is really dumb. He mopes throughout the whole book, and I actually felt bad for him, because I don't think boarding school is for everybody and it came across that Mr. Bruno was just ultra controlling. But then in chapter 14, Logan was just like. "I just don't want to talk to my dad." WHAT?! You're kidding me lol. He waited until Mr. Bruno already put the deposit in to talk to him. That's just bizarre. But yeah, this also wasn't fun to read.
Bringing safety to the baby-sitting charges was the worst part... it never goes anywhere and is a bit obnoxious to read, especially the last chapter where Claudia sits for Jamie and Lucy.
Chapter 10 was my favorite. Has some funny lines. Dawn saying she was born to be a victim (then Mary Anne saying in text that she was tired of being one... what?! Omg shut up), then this bit, which is actually pretty witty:
“Let’s see … I’ll need a head-trauma victim, a heavy bleeder, a broken leg, a fainter, two victims in the car, front and backseats —”
“And a paaaartridge in a peaaaar treeee!” The singing voice of Alan Gray was unmistakable. Like fingernails scratching a blackboard.
“Maybe Alan can be beheaded,” Logan said.
"Alan shrugged. “Cool.”
“It wouldn’t change anything,” Kristy muttered."
It's not absolutely terrible, since there are good parts. Just not very interesting. I think I'd give it a 4. I was going to give it a 3, but I don't think it's THAT bad.

In a way this is realistic, since people behave differently than you'd expect in a crisis. I really like how this plays out in the shipwreck super special. You would expect Dawn to take charge and Claudia to be Dawn's deputy, but it was cool to see Claudia rise to the challenge and surprise herself, and for Dawn to stumble a bit.

It was a great book for Claudia. It's really weird that the writers seemed to want to forget it.
