As I was reading this one I was thinking we should have a Stupid Things the BSC Think thread. Claudia also told everyone she used to think Alice in Wonderland was a girl, Alison Wonderland.
I didn't mind this one until they went to NYC. Then it got boring. I don't care how much of a killjoy Mrs. Rutherford was, it wasn't cool of Stacey to have everyone run off to the zoo without telling her.
Sharon and Jeff act like they don't miss each other very much. Do you think Sharon would ever go back to CA to visit? She spent half of her life there and presumably has friends out there.

^ Hmmm....I don't think Sharon ever felt tied to CA the way Dawn and Jeff did. I'm sure she DOES have friends, but I think the bad there probably outweighs the good.

Actually, I'm sort of surprised that Sharon didn't come out for Mrs. Winslow's funeral. They were next door neighbors and Sunny and Dawn are best friends--they must have been close.

I forgot to mention one more thing I liked. Victoria thought she saw David Letterman doing a pirouette on the skate pond in Rockefeller Center. Hee.

^ I don't think he came in either one. I think Dawn surprised Sharon in this one. She did in First Thanksgiving, too, didn't she? I like this book. She did surprised her mother she didnt want MA to mention it.

I hate this book - I recently snarked it on the LJ community. The only thing that could have made it more British would have been to mention marmite. Oh, I love marmite.
I did like the Dawn surprise though.

The part where George the driver was like "fine with me!" when Richard said he was going to show everyone his slides seriously made the whole book for me. Is it Niamh? I like that name Because one of AMM's favorite books growing up was A Little Princess as she tells us in her letter I know! I liked the NYC trip but couldn't enjoy that part because I felt sorry for her... Love it.

I thought a nice moment in this book was when Stacey invited her dad to join them at Pizza Hut. It seemed like a nice thought on Stacey's part to get to see her dad for a few. Too bad we didn't get to read any of their conversation but Ed did treat everyone to dinner.
Otherwise, I felt like this had a lot of loose ends. There was the hint of creating a kids' football team like the Krushers. I'm not a football fan but thought that sounded cute. Maybe it was nice seeing Kristy and Logan interacting with kids at the same time. MA could have helped with that a little bit.
The whole Sharon trying to make MA into Dawn was strange. I "get" Sharon, probably more around the holidays, missed both her kids. A part of that may have been traditions the Schafers had and/or foods they enjoyed eating together. Now that both her kids were gone and as someone up-thread said, she was left with a stepdaughter she didn't really know, she felt abandoned. If this had been more about MA and Sharon in terms of MA never having a mom before and Sharon coming to know her"2nd" daughter it could have been really sweet. The other thing, I noticed was there was zero mention of Jeff. Didn't Sharon miss him, too? It seemed like she was 100% focused on Dawn. There should have been one book where Jeff came to CT without Dawn.
The Little Princess main plot did nothing for me.

I agree Zoar I thought the Stacey's dad thing was nice too.
However, I'm glad there was no football team made, I can barely get through anything Krushers at this point!
As for the rest of this book, Boring! I don't know if I liked anything about it. I feel like many of you, this book could have been more about Sharon and MA getting to know one another better and having that mother/daughter bonding. I understand about MA not wanting to replace her mother etc, but her mother died at such a young age I would think she would jump at the chance to have someone in her life. My dad died when I was six and I always hoped that my mom would remarry so that I would have some sort of dad-like figure. I guess I just feel like MA is being selfish here.
And please - Dawn just stay away! Just when I think she is gone - wham she shows back up. sigh....

^ It was. Lol, I completely admit to not being a football fan. I just liked the freshness of a different kid-scene in Stoneybrook. I agree with on the rest, there really wasn't anything worthwhile. MA always says that she doesn't miss her mother just the idea of Alma. I wonder if she would change her mind as she got older? I was extremely blessed to have my grandma as mom to me. That doesn't mean I didn't, especially as I reached MA's age and through high school looked toward older (but younger than my Grandma) women in my life for a "like mother" friendship. I think that's another reason I was always disappointed Kristy didn't do that with Sgt. Johnson in terms of a father. Dawn can just blast off with the Veehoff Comet.

I love it! O/T I actually googled "Shelmadine Veehoff" yesterday and she is only to be found in Stoneybrook legend.

I'm surprised that I didn't post on this thread before.
If any, this was one of the BSC books that I LOOKED FORWARD TO this most (maybe I should start a thread about that, if I haven't already...) C'mon! Mary Anne's last book was 93, so it took almost 10 more books for her to have another title again. And my kid self was BURSTING because I, for some reason, LOVED Mary Anne so much and couldn't wait for her to have another book. So when I saw this was coming out on the back of Book 101, I was livid. So I think my kid self automatically loved it. I probably ate it all up, skin and bones!
Some comments now:
- George actually made it on the cover. Yo go, boy! - The Mary Anne Mitsu thing *cracked me up*. I literally burst out laughing when I read it. One of the best parts of this book, to me. - Abby had a really good, snarky comment in this book. Lerangis has given her a few around this time in the series. - I love the opening scene where Mary Anne is reading a paperback under a tree on a chilly November day, watching Kristy and Logan play football with some clients. I always remember that scene. - The NYC trip was a spur-of-the-moment thing, but I guess it was kind of interesting. I think the plot could have done without that or Dawn coming for Thanksgiving. There seemed too much and it was rushed at the end, as zoar mentioned, with loose ends.
So the Kents have Thanksgiving dinner with Mary Anne and that's it...?
