I wish some of her confidence would rub off on me! She sounds like my little cousin, who literally has said "I'm awesome" I guess it's good she has self esteem

I say crap like that all the time... but in a jokey way. e.g. I was out on a date w/ this guy recently and he told me he felt nervous around me and I was like "why?" and he's like "I dunno... you're like..." and I finished his sentence with "totally awesome?" And yes I totally thought of good ole Dawn at that moment. I'd never go so far as to inform random people about how "beautiful" I am though, lol. Dawn is so hilarious.
Ooh I just thought of something. When her and Travis go out to eat after school, he goes on and on about how wonderful the cheeseburgers are, but then just orders both of them grilled cheese sandwiches. Think Dawn would've eaten the cheeseburger if Travis had ordered it for her? Or would she have stuck by her ways and told the dreamy older boy no?

She would have choked it down, then felt bad about it. In other news, reading about those cheese sandwiches always makes me hungry!

Yeah everyone says dim things around the first guy they really fall for. I mean when I got my first kiss (which was "awesome" at the time ;D) and he was walking me home, I blurted out without thinking, "Why did you do that?" And he was all, "Uh... I don't know, just did." I practically kicked myself when I got home.

When I was in junior high, when I liked a guy, I always kept it a secret from my friends for as long as I possibly could. Then, whenever I told them or they guessed or found out some other way, I wouldn't shut up about him. i'm 21 and still do this.

The Perkins and the Hobarts were putting on some stupid play as the subplot of this book, but I actually enjoyed it because it was fun to read about Myriah and Gabbie interacting with the Hobarts. They live next door to each other, right? I never really thought about them being friends with each other, but it was kinda cute and fun.
A random weird thing: Dawn is surprised that Travis drives because she doesn't know ANYONE else in Stoneybrook who actually gets to start driving when they turn 16. She says all of their parents make them wait until they're 17. Uhh... why? The entire town does that? I didn't start driving until I was 17, but I was pretty much the only one in my high school who didn't get their license the day they turned 16.
I liked how Dawn didn't get mad at Travis's girlfriend when she saw them together. Initially she says that the girl (Sara) is gorgeous and "I hated her on first sight". But then she reminds herself that it's not Sara's fault that she's pretty and that Travis is a jerk. It was nice because often in a situation like that the girl (especially a young girl like Dawn) is quick to hate the other girl and forget that the guy in the middle of it is the one she should be mad at.

^ It bugs the snot out of me when girls do that!!! I used to work with a girl whose boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend and guess who got all the blame and kicked out of my coworker's life? Yep, the friend and the friend only. I couldn't believe it...

I agree, Hitzpink, with thinking that was good of Dawn to take that approach to Sara instead of hating her. After all, it wasn't the girl's fault that Travis led Dawn on. And I think Dawn also kind of realized that she had been a bit disallusioned. Did she ever admit that she caught on in the end and realized that Travis never really "liked" her because she was way too young? (though I'm not exactly sure what his intentions were - it was very strange) I haven't read this one for a while. I guess I will have to reread.

What I found kind of odd is that in this book, Sara is wearing a white cotton flight suit which Dawn thinks is cool... ;D

^ ;D About to ask the same question about what a flight suit is. The BSC was into some ..... interesting... fashions, even for the time period.
