I like how Dawn didn't get mad at Sara. That was mature of her. I was glad, too. That scene had the potential to be a lot more embarrassing for Dawn had she flown off the handle and started yelling in the Merry-go-Round or something. Dawn really liked sneaking and spying on people, didn't she. I'm thinking of her spying on Stacey from behind a jukebox in Stacey vs. the BSC. Now there's a cringeworthy scene!

^When Kristy says "I hate sneaking around" when they're going into the Coopers' room in Baby-sitters' Haunted House, Dawn is like "really? 'cause I love it!" Hahaha.

^Lol, that is so funny and a scene I had forgotten. SM1 is my favorite SM, too. Dawn also likes to sneak around in negative ways such as at the Lazars'. It would have been interesting had Dawn been "caught" a second time by Richard and Sharon.

This is one of the first books I read when I was starting to get back into BSC.
So yeah. Dawn was an idiot and Travis seemed like a total jerk. I also don't get the whole thing about him not really liking her like that... why else would he have showed her so much attention? Narcissist that he is, his girlfriend probably showers him in praise, so why did he really need impressionable, dumb Dawn?
I agree with everyone who says how individualist Dawn is always so willing to change for guys. Lovely inconsistency, you're like another associate sitter.

^The only thing I can think of is either Travis was a child predator or else so desperate for attention that he latched onto Dawn. Of course the other possibility is that he took some type of "dare" by his friends (similar to the one in Stacey and the Haunted Masquerade) and wanted to see if he could get Dawn to fall for him. Either way, any way, he was creepy and Dawn not too bright.

I think Travis just noticed right from that first morning that Dawn was impressed by him and he went with it. Why he continued to pursue her was a mystery. I wonder if Charlie knew how far Travis was taking things or if he would have even cared. For all the transporting of BSC members Charlie did, he never showed much interest in their lives.

^Good point and question about Charlie. He did seem to take the BSC Members wherever at a drop of a hat (this was super nice of him) just odd at times. In this book, if charlie were truly a friend of Travis' you would think he would have had some inclination or knowledge of what was going on with Dawn.

Guys don't talk about these things often, so I highly doubt Charlie even knew what Travis was doing outside of high school, though I know he knew about Sara. Travis reminds me more and more of my now-ex. He wasn't shutting up about himself, and he was buying Dawn stuff, mine did something similar but I also thought everyone isn't like that.
I did find it weird how he knew where Dawn lived though, who told him?

I did find it weird how he knew where Dawn lived though, who told him? I don't know how the rumor that "guys don't talk about girls" got started. My friends talk about girls they're involved with/interested in in absolutely exhaustive detail. I do not see why Charlie would take a vested interest in his little sister's friends' lives, though. That would be creepy. His mom probably makes him drive Kristy & co. everywhere because she and Watson are too busy hitting up estate sales and stuff. That is the bane of the oldest siblings' existence: get your license, become chauffeur.

Very true, Greer. Do we know if Charlie and Travis actually hung out at school or maybe Charlie had only invited him to his (C's) house that one morning. If they just said "hi" every now and then or maybe had lunch or whatever, then Charlie probably didn't know about Dawn. I got the vibe that Travis was creepy enough to be the type to "brag" about his escapades and let it be known to at least someone how he was stringing Dawn along. Maybe not.

Agree that it'd be weird for Charlie to notice enough about what was going on to realize Travis was Pygmalioning Dawn. If he realized Travis and Dawn had a thing going at all, he probably would have assumed Travis was cheating on the redhead before he guessed the actual story.
One thing I like about this book more as an adult than I did as a girl is how Dawn actually works up the courage to confront Travis...and then it doesn't go at all how she expects. There have been so many times my friends and I made big plans to show someone up for some slight or other, and then we either lose our nerve at the last minute or actually go through with it and it turns out horribly.

I guess I meant guys who aren't close enough may not talk, or maybe I'm wrong again. I really don't think Travis and Charlie talk...and it is true that Charlie was used to being the dominant sibling since Patrick left
I was also proud of Dawn for sticking up, and I learned something about how smothering is not healthy when Sharon spoke up, yet I let it happen to me recently though I'm more than half her age.

I agree that it was great how Dawn stood up for herself. No, it doesn't seem like Charlie and Travis really did know much about one another. That could have added to the book if they had. Charlie finds out what Travis is doing, tries to intervene, etc. Hug again, Supprazz. A relationship really doesn't "complete" you it merely enhances your life. I'm still waiting for my own Mr. Right to show up but have learned that lesson myself through guys and friends. Never easy. Lila, sorry about your experience, too.
