Maybe it's just another example of how the club won everything they entered? Jessi won the synchronized swimming when she was new, Claudia won an honorable mention for a sculpture she didn't even finish, Mallory got sixth out of twelve in her...okay never mind, Mallory's a bad example, but still. Everything these girls entered seemed to turn into gold medals and blue ribbons for them.

^ that's something i absolutely hate about this series. these girls can't do anything without doing it the best. mallory won the contest at young author day, jessi gets the lead in every ballet she auditions for, claudia is critiqued because she's "way too talented to let it go to waste" and she actually wins an essay contest and gets a radio show. the only times the girls are shown struggling is towards the end, like kristy and abby not standing out on their sports teams. but it seriously takes 100-plus regular books to even get there.

One thing that I disagreed with in this book was when the teacher showed Stacey the print out of the Connecticut math rankings. She could have shared the information verbally. I don't know. I just think it was a breach somehow, that those scores were a bit confidential. Maybe I have just been around the type of energy where grades were private. Teacher's usually never kept their grade-books where visible and report cards were confidential.
Also, Stacey as the #1 in the state? I could see maybe the top 3 - just to show that she's really, really good. But wow. This girl is perfect. The BSC are these amazing 13 year old beings. No wonder we love them so much. They make the average person seem lazy and stupid (haha jokes).
I was also pleased to see Maureen and Ed interact in this book a bit more and secretly hope that they can have an amicable relationship in the future. Maybe Maureen finds her dreamboat and they have couples dates with Samantha and Ed and Stacey?

Well, in Mallory and the Dream Horse, Mallory doesn't win the horse show. She came in sixth place. Granted, this is Mallory we're talking about but still, she didn't win first place.

Stacey is perfect! Oops. Except for the diabetes Love her. Edited on January 27th ~ There are some incredibly awesome moments in this book, like Maureen flipping out over Ed buying peaches and plums in February; Claudia saying to Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt, "I'm the tooter - I mean tutor"; Stacey threatening to quit the club again.

Man, you guys basically took all of my points that I was going to make but in the beginning, Stacey says that she's obsessed with fashion like how others are obssessed with chocolate. Do you think that maybe that's saying that she throws herself into really liking fashion in order to make up for not being able to eat sweets because not being able to do someting might make you want to do it more and in this case it builds up into a really big thing because she's reminded of it everytime she's reminded of her diabetes (when she has to inject herself, check her blood-level, etc.). And then she takes her desire for sweets and channels it into her passion for fashion? Sorry about not explaining it well.

I think she would still be a fashion nut even if she could eat sugar, if that is what you are saying. Her phrasing is a little odd. How do you compare a love for a hobby (which is what I would classify her fashion interest at 13 as) with a love for a food?

I think she would still be a fashion nut too, even if she could eat sugar. I don't think that would ever change.

Oh, the passage actually says that she "likes nice clothes like some people like chocolates" and it was a transition to her talking about her diabetes. So, oops. I misread it.

She has no control over her diagnosis and the self-care she needs to live, but having control over how she carries herself outside and through self-expression, fashion in her case, helps her feel better like it's a solution that compensates and gives her a sense of control and confidence about herself.

Man, I just wish that Bea Foster would've been the state champion instead of Stacey since she was known around school as the math genius and the BSC winning-streak couldn't even let her have that.
