That is true. It’s like if you have a preferred server in restaurant and inquire if they are there. The other girls got all offended as if it meant they weren’t good sitters. Lol Although I do have to admit, I did like the fight in this book. It was so petty! I felt bad for Claudia getting ganged up on until she forced Charlotte into the pageant so she could have a contestant too.

Jeff couldn't care less about leaving his mother and Dawn and their feelings. Typical 9 year old boy. But he doesn't get better he's pretty much a spoiled brat.
What's so wrong about entering kids in a beauty pageant? The girls think it's sexist but they're a bunch of hypocrites because they entered some of their clients into it. IMO a pageant could teach a child to be confident.
One thing I can say about hose girls they can be really competitive.

I could see Karen continuing to enter contests like these because she thinks she is just that amazing

My town has a Little Miss Pagent every year. I'm not 100% what it entails, but it coincides with the county fair. It is harmless, and the little girls who participate look to be having a good time. It is not a "beauty pageant." When people think negatively, I think they are thinking of Jon-Benet Ramsey type pageants with flipper teeth and adult makeup and big hair.

The girls forgot about their complaints that pageants were sexist once it came time to compete against each other to show who was the best babysitter!

That's like a shrunken down version of Mary Anne. The center girl has confidence.

I think that's Emily Michelle in front, and I think she's raising the roof. She looks like she's crossing her fingers super sarcastically. She looks like she has a headache. That lady in the front right has a pained "mom" smile, too.

So far Dawn's books have consistently changed the most out of everyone. Translations:
Dawn and Miss Child Mirror, Mirror (On the wall?) Violet and the Little Princesses Diana…and the Young Miss Nouville Carole and the Mini-Miss Carla’s Revenge (for what?) Dawn and the Miss of the Year Dawn and the Beauty Contest

I like Dawn's freckles on the Italian cover. She actually looks 13 and no other covers carried the freckles over from the books.

I didn't like this one as a kid, so I only read it a couple of times max.
What was WRONG with me? This book is hilarious! Honestly, so far, this has the most ridiculous plot and I love it. It's so silly. I'm on Mal and Jessi's side in regards to pageants, but it's still entertaining. Even the title is ridiculous. Why not Dawn and Little Miss Stoneybrook? It adds to the uniqueness, though, I guess.
The Jeff subplot was pretty sad, and definitely kind of weird when paired with the rather silly main plot. And I'm wondering if AMM had ideas to move Dawn to CA early on in the series or if it was originally not in the cards.
Direct quote:
"And because of that, it was Mom clinging to me, as if to say, Don’t you go away, too. Well, I wouldn’t. That was the one thing she’d never have to worry about."
Ouch. I feel bad for Sharon here, although honestly, moving her kids across the country in the middle of the school year was cruel. In Baby-sitters Remember, they didn't even get a choice. Messed up. Somehow this didn't bother me as a kid, but it really bothers me now. Dawn even says she wished they'd never moved at all so she wouldn't feel so conflicted. I'm one of those that actually sympathizes with her being unable to pick a coast. Also, I can't imagine how she feels about Jeff being so glad to move away. That would hurt a lot.
One of the funniest quotes imo (said by Mallory):
“Oh, no. My sisters. My baby sisters. They’ll be contaminated. They’ll be brainwashed. If I become the sister of Little Miss Stoneybrook, I will absolutely die!” Sometimes they are SO dramatic. Claire and Margo cracked me up in this book, especially when they got in a fight and rehearsed at the top of their lungs. I wouldn't want to be in that scene, but it's funny from afar.
I remember Dawn's jealousy at Mallory and Jessi getting an induction ceremony being resolved somewhat, but it didn't. Weird. I remember a short conversation between her and Kristy. Does anybody else?

In this book? I don’t remember one. Looking back Dawn shouldn’t have felt so bad about the ceremony. Mal and Jessi blended together in the eyes of the older girls. Dawn was definitely more of an individual

I think I would have preferred that only Dawn had gotten overly competitive or maybe that it had been a super special and we could have gotten to see more perspectives.
