This post was from 14 years ago. The boards have undergone technical updates since then that can affect layouts, but also we shouldn't nitpick posts from users who aren't still active on the boards.

That particular poster passed away years ago. I know recent members would not know that, but when you read aln1982's posts you have to know that she is not here to clarify or defend her thoughts.

No offense to you, but you keep saying how dead the board is but you don’t want to read the content that is here. You’ve posted in many threads that you’re not going to read through X amount of pages.

I agree, sparklymouse. I just think it’s basic forum etiquette.

Livvy, nobody expects you to know that aln passed away. I thought about saying so in my original response to you several days ago, but it wasn't relevant to my thoughts in general (I think your comment would have been inappropriate even if it were someone else's post, because it feels like punching down to critique a post 10+ years after the fact).
However, if your response to learning about aln's passing had been to say "I'm sorry, I didn't realize, etc" then none of this discussion would have happened. This isn't the first time you've said something that I find insensitive or dismissive. It's not basic forum etiquette, it's life etiquette. When somebody tells you that they lost a friend, you don't shrug your shoulders and say oh well.

It looks like they're dating and the parents in the background disapprove. Lol, they both look super dopey and are both sprouting little antennas out of their hair. Sharon looks dishy. This looks like a school dance where she's waiting for Logan. Titles: Mary Anne and the Wedding Inge and Betty become sisters A surprise for Anne-Marie Congratulations, Mary Anne! Mary Anne and her new sister

I'm not sure what it was, but I wasn't a big fan of this one. I think this is when Mary Anne's character officially began to shift. She flies off the handle so much in this one. Weird. How would Dawn know that Richard didn't tell her about the move (also, WHAT THE HECK?! It fell like everything moved so fast and there was no discussion about it). For the record, I'm glad they moved to the Schafers because that's probably my favorite BSC house.
My oldest friend's dad and my mom dated when they were in high school. We used to talk about getting them back together (her parents are divorced and mine were separated). I'm not sure if the BSC helped facilitate this idea, but I wouldn't be surprised. Nothing ever happened, and I was secretly glad, since I liked being an only child lol.
The Kindle versions all have a note from AMM, I'm guessing from when the covers got updated. I'll just copy paste this (she's talking about major plot points and life changes in the BSC):
"For example, my editors and I once considered a big story for Mallory — sending her to boarding school. In the end, we decided that wasn’t such a good idea. Readers would miss her too much. Some ideas are better than others!"
I guess they really wanted to try this out and made it a plot point at the end of the series. Didn't expect to see this at all.

Wow, they had that idea brewing for 9 years. At that point Mallory would have only been in the club for 16 books. They really didn't like her.

I think AMM's notes only started appearing after Farewell Dawn with the new cover designs. So luckily it might not be quite that bad lol, although there's no way of knowing when they came up with that idea. It could very well have been this early in the series. She was out with mono for awhile... maybe they were testing the waters to see how things went without her? Either way, poor Mallory.

I wonder if Scholastic ever wanted her to trim the characters down. She went from 4 to 5 to 6. Stacey came back not long before this one. Maybe someone was like "really, 7?"

I re read this one a few days ago, skipping the sitting chapters because I don't care for the Arnold twins aside from their debut book. I liked it better that way! It was still so annoying how poorly planned it was, and I really don't think Mary Anne had a right to be so angry at Dawn because she knew they were all living in the farmhouse before her. How would Dawn know that?
One thing really bothered me: they have the reception at Chez Maurice, a restaurant that doesn't have good veg options. I know it's the modest restaurant in town, but it doesn't feel right to me. One side of the family just isn't going to be satisfied with their meal. It's just weird. It's one thing to be like the only veg guest at a wedding, but when the BRIDE and her kids are (I know, inconsistencies, but in this book they're described as vegetarian)? That kinda sucks.
One kind of interesting thing in this chapter 2: Mary Anne rates Claudia's fashion sense a 10 and Stacey's a 9.5 (she doesn't have that "artistic flair"). I swear at another time (maybe a Mallory book?), Stacey's fashion sense was described as slightly better, maybe more mature or something. Generally, they're seen as equally cool.
Edit: might not be a super fair rating since I skipped the sitting chapters. But I think this one is a 7. It's enjoyable, and since AMM wrote it, well-written, but I still dislike how the Schafers and Spiers handled things (although I guess if they handled things well, the story wouldn't be as interesting).

This is a really good point. When I host events, I order food that I want and everyone else can deal with it, lol. She's a very accommodating bride if she picked a restaurant she can't eat at for her own wedding. I wish we knew more about her first wedding to compare them.

In AMM's California, everyone liked healthy and primarily vegetarian food anyway XD (well, not in the CDs, but still). I wonder if Sharon made the switch when she moved there.
