If Marilyn wanted the idea of her secret friend to become a success, she should have thought of a better name than Goozie Koona ...

When I first read this, I thought Mary Anne was being a whiny b*tch by crying over having to move in with Dawn and Sharon. But after considering it, her actions were pretty justified for a self-proclaimed sensitive 13-year-old girl.
Think about it: you have to move out of the only house you know. EVERYONE else involved knows about it, except for you. You might feel out of the loop.

Richard definitely waited too long to tell Mary Anne about the move.
The description of the Schafer house was inconsistent size-wise. In the earliest books, it was described as just a small farmhouse. But in this book, it's suddenly described as being bigger, and also as being bigger than Richard's house, hence the reason for the move.

Last night I started to wonder if Watson had not come into the picture and the Thomases had not moved either into his mansion or anywhere else if Mary Anne would have fought harder to stay in Bradford Court. Her house there did indeed sound much bigger and homier than the dilapidated, dark, and narrow farmhouse. Besides the farmhouse magically growing as a whole, its kitchen suddenly gained space for a table and chairs. I remember in #4, Dawn says there was no room for either,

And in the BSC movie, it was worse. Don't you remember the house being HUGE? I can specifically think of a scene in which Mary Anne (Rachael Leigh Cook) and Dawn (Larisa Oleynik) are in a room with a USA theme (stars, stripes).

I think Dawn's place was more adventurous because of the secret passage and Bradford Court was being cleared out to make room for new clients and new plots

One thing that bothered me was how Mary Anne was complaining that she would be farther away from her friends (and Logan) if she moved. However, her new house was actually CLOSER to Logan's place -- I believe -- and if you look on the map in The Complete Guide, it's not far from Bradford Court at all!

^Supposedly (in the early books) Jenny P (who later "moved" next door to Mary Anne and Dawn) lived very close to the Pikes. The Pikes it was said lived a couple streets over from Bradford Court. But then Fawcett Ave (maybe #3) was said to be 2 streets from Bradford Court? Maybe it went Bradford Court, Slate Street, Fawcett Ave, Kimball (Charlotte), and then Burnt Hill Road? Though I also thought Dawn lived farther away from Bradford Court and the Pikes. She did ride her bike to the Barretts (two houses down from the Pikes) in #5! Maybe location like time simply has no true meaning in Stoneybrook!

I always thought Dawn lived at the edge of town, almost out in the country. The houses seemed to be farther apart. (Except I do remember Mrs. Prezzioso showing up the night of the fire and being like "I'm so sorry...uh, my house better not burn too, thanks!") I give Mary Anne a pass on the house thing regardless of its location. It's difficult to change when it isn't your choice.

I think that there was a highly developed area, where Bradford Court, Fawcett, et al are located, and then they were surrounded by farms, which were then purchased and parceled into smaller lots, with the exception of the Stones. It's possible that Burnt Hill Road has a more rural feel than the section where Bradford is and still have them be very close. It was only established in 73 that they live on Burnt Hill, though.

Oh, I was wrong. In another section of the cg, it says it was established in 4. But it's possilble they didn't know where Burnt Hill was in accordance with other streets before they stuck the Prezziosos there.

I thought that Richard should've told Mary Anne about the move earlier. I did like that Mary Anne got Alma's necklace and that she wore it to the wedding. I also liked the note that Mary Anne wrote to Kristy.

I liked the scene with Mary Anne getting her mom's necklace, too. Mary Anne was trying not to cry; I'm surprised she was able to stave off the tears (and save her makeup from running, at least until the wedding ceremony!). I don't think I would have been able to.

Aw, now I feel like reading that scene. That was really thoughtful of Richard to give her the necklace on his wedding day.
