Just finished this one and it gets my bid for the lamest BSC book of all time. Mallory comes down with mono and has to stay in bed for a while which means "... life without the BSC. No more meetings. No more babysitting, or talent shows, or backyard circuses, or group hikes. No more pizza parties. No more fun." This book was lame lame laaaame. From Mallory's attempts to get fired from the BSC (Which of course doesn't happen, why? "Because we love you (Mallory)!" : , then the part about all the babysitters and charges coming over the day before Thanksgiving and giving Mallory presents and singing to her... Gotta love Claudia's "Miracul Cure" earrings though. And the part about the Pike family's picture perfect Thanksgiving almost made me ill. C'mon, I'm supposed to believe the Pike kids got through a whole day without arguing or spilling anything? Thats what makes them interesting! Even the subplot was sappy! All the kids pooling their allowances to buy presents for old people? And all the kids seemed overly concerned with this trip to the senior center, I believe there was a part when they find out they're $100 short of what they need and one of the Pike girls gets tears in her eyes. Oh and I liked that they bought the seniors toys. Does anyone really think that would go over well?

Oh, lord. "No more...backyard circuses" has to be up there with "Life would be a picnic."
I never reread this book. It would probably make me vomit.

I hated it when I first read it years ago. It just seemed like the dumbest, un-BSC plot anyone could ever come up with. I even considered writing to AMM to tell her so. I wasn't aware of ghostwriters at this point.

I agree this one sucked. There were no juicy/interesting parts whatsoever. About the closest they came was "what will the kids in school say when they hear Mallory Pike has the kissing disease?"
We also find out that Mallory has never kissed Ben.
I like the cover of this book though, Claire and Margo look really cute. Mallory looks like she should be playing a violin

Congratulations, macca! *does the dance of 1000 posts* Actually, I think this post is my one hundredth, so I might as well do a dance for that, too. #common001#

Its hard to comment on this book, it's rather blah. But I just read it so... well, Margo and Claire really do look adorable on the cover.
The subplot is super cheesy, but I did like reading about them at the Costco type store. And it was pretty cool how they bought the old people toys and stuff, I thought that was cute.
Mallory is SO lame with her attempts to start arguements and stuff.

^ Ugh, yeah... Mallory's attempt at being kicked out of the BSC was extremely irritating.

Mallory is such a drama queen.

Margo is one homely little girl, but Claire will grow up to be hot, which is fortunate since she doesn't seem too bright.

Aw, I really liked this book. I loved the Thanksgiving carnival that they put on, and the way the kids all sell promises to raise money, and the descriptions of the food at the Pikes Thanksgiving dinner. This book is full of delicious imagery. Though I suppose the plot does leave a lot to be desired...

Were they using Watson's discount card to get all the stuff at that shopping centre? Come on, Watson. You're a real live millionaire...pay full price for your groceries.

It wasn't his discount card per se, it was his membership card to the discount costco type store. Wonder why a real live millionare would be buying in bulk though. Although I'm sure the Thomas/Brewer clan could rip through a 20 pack of toilet paper in two days.

^Watson could be a cheapskate at times, though. Wasn't it in Baby-sitters on Board! that he didn't let the girls eat candy from a minibar because it was expensive?
But I can see how bulk-buying would be convenient for Kristy's LARGE! BLENDED!! FAMILY!!!

Watson is definitely a cheapskate at times - hello, making Karen pay for half of her bike? But I can totally see them shopping at a Costco type store just for the huge sizes you get everything in.
