^Stacey already had too many medical emergencies. A book about mono would have to be called "Hope You Don't Die, Stacey!".
I think Kristy would be most interesting because I think it would have been hardest on her to be bedridden, and it would affect the other members the most. I don't think ill Mallory affected anyone beyond having one less sitter available and Jessi was a little lonely.
Claudia couldn't miss that much school. It would destroy her. Unless they used it as the reason she was sent back to 7th grade, which would have been better than what they did use.

^I agree about Stacey. As for Claud, if that was why she was sent back, hopping right back to 8th grade a couple months later wouldn't have been so easy or as likely to happen. I wonder if we might have gotten to read about Claud writing to Serena McKay? I remember Serena telling Claud that she was sent back two maybe 3 times. I don't think any of which were illness related. Kristy, I'd be crushed. Also because I don't see the BSC as lasting for too long without her. Sadly, you're right about Mal. She really wasn't "missed." :/

Well, it wasn't likely to happen as it was written without Claud being sick, either. It's not the sort of thing that would have happened in real life, someone being sent back to seventh grade and then her teachers deciding that doing seventh-grade work again while missing months of what was being taught in eighth grade would make her well-equipped to catch up again in eighth. Dawn getting mono wouldn't have worked at that point in the series because it wouldn't have impacted the club, since she was in California. It would have to be at another time. I bet she would be very grouchy about it.

^The whole thing with Claudia was outrageous anyway you look at it. It would have made more sense (probably) had she either had to repeat 7th grade (after the first time) instead of moving on to 8th grade (the first time) or soon after Mimi passed.
Mary Anne might have been the best choice. She had so many different "issues" and things going on that I never really "knew" her anyway. As I said above, this probably would have caused some discussion between her and Kristy and MA and Richard. Timing either right after the wedding or when Dawn leaves for good.

In an homage to, "Good-bye, Stacey, Good-bye," it could have been titled, "Don't die, Stacey, Don't Die!" ^ I don't think it would have been called "Get Well Soon, Mallory" for one. It could have been called, "Have a Good Time, Mallory" Mary Anne might have been the best choice. She had so many different "issues" and things going on that I never really "knew" her anyway. As I said above, this probably would have caused some discussion between her and Kristy and MA and Richard. Timing either right after the wedding or when Dawn leaves for good. Since mono is also the kissing disease, there could have been a big joke about MA and Logan's secret make out sessions.

I think Kristy would have been an interesting candidate for having mono, seeing how she would have coped having to slow down. It would also be interesting to see how the BSC survived.
I had mono when I was 15, and let me tell you, it was not fun!

What about if she was in a diabetic coma and they turned it into a clipbook, or they could make it a super special and have everyone write a chapter about there favourite Stacey memory?

sounds waaaay too depressing for a kids' book! Don't worry, I know they would never have done it, it was a reference to the first Simpsons clip show

The Stacey book is so depressing sounding, NO!
Kristy would have made sense the most cause of taking on too much.

My only "new" (old) question about this is something I probably brought up before. How do the girls manage to always keep cookies fresh for so long? Seriously, it sounded like they did the majority of the baking at least 4 days prior to the program. Mrs. Arnold I believe gives Kristy a tin of cookies for the BSC in "Empty House." There were probably other instances where food was made days in advance. Even though I can no longer eat cookies, I'd love to know their secret! Otherwise, I do still like this book. It would have been nice to see Claire and Margo keep their promise of visiting their new friends at Stoneybrook Manor, possibly taking Mal with. I remember Mal saying in "Ghost Cat," that she'd enjoy helping the agency who brought dogs to visit the Home out. She also said that was something the Craine girls might have enjoyed. Claire and Margo might have also.

Four day old cookies aren't terribly unusual, are they? My mom keeps cookies in a cookie jar on her counter and it's just her and my dad these days so they don't get eaten very fast, but they're usually still OK to eat at least a week later, maybe longer. If the cookies are in an airtight container that doesn't get opened often, they should be fine.
Mallory has old lady pajamas. "Practical, yet feminine," is not a thing that preteens should be looking for in sleepwear.

Depends on the cookie. The gingerbread cookie recipe I make keeps well for 10 days. Biscotti also keeps well.
One trick my mom taught me: if it's been a few days and the cookies are starting to harden, put a slice of white bread in the container with the cookies and they'll get soft again. It really works! We used to bake tons of chocolate chip cookies and frosted sugar cookies during Christmas and it helped them last longer.

^ Neat-o! (I sound like a 50s teen bopper!) I wonder what about the bread makes it do that to the cookies.

^ The cookies absorb the moisture from the bread, but they don't absorb the bread's flavor. It's a useful trick when you've got a small household and can't eat cookies that quickly!
