First off all and O/T, I hope you feel better soon Buttercup I reread this book last night and still love it. It was so very sweet when the BSC and some of the kids surprised Mal with her own holiday basket and by bringing the Thanksgiving Carnival games (played at Stoneybrook Manor the day before) to the Pikes. When Vanessa gave Mal the turkey "cake" (I'm guessing it was a cardboard cake)? she had won in the Cake-walk I had a big smile, nice moment and reminded me of when Mal and Vanessa talk at night in Mystery Diary and before Mal leaves for Riverbend. I always enjoy those sisterly moments between them and getting to read about the Pike family celebration was great, too. And so funny when Kristy pointed to the phone and it rang on cue. (It was Dawn). ETA: This book could have made a great Mallory Portrait. I realized there were two potential chapters with Mal, her brothers, and their dad when Mrs. Pike took the other kids to NY and then about the NY trip. Both would have made for totally different reading and also a chance to read about the Pike kids doing something not only with their parents but not as a whole group, where I think a lot of time they get lumped together. Just a couple of random extra ideas.

Just a couple of random extra ideas. I think that the cake in question was actually an edible cake in the shape of a turkey Actually, I re-read this one last night and there was a cardboard turkey but I don't know why Vanessa would have won that...

I haven't reread this one too many times so I forgot that it spans both Halloween and Thanksgiving. I liked it this time around for that reason.

I wish they'd made it a little more interesting. Mal always acts stupid, or insecure, or something in her books, and all this book really has going for it is that it had foreshadowing.

The toys idea for the Stoneybrook Manor residence is actually a really good one, which I will mentally file away for future reference!

This was one of my favorites as a kid. I love them visiting the senior citizens and giving them toys. I like reading about shopping trips so I really enjoyed that chapter. The subplot sticks out to me more then the main plot.

Apparently, this book isn't a everyone's favorite. I like it. Not my favorite or the most memorable, but enjoyable. Parts I enjoyed: The subplot; The kids helping out with the old folks at the nursing home is so, so sweet. The shopping trip is fun, too. When Margo and Claire babysat Mallory. The three of them bonded, just them, not the entire Pike brood. Besides they're adorable. The Halloween costumes the Pike kids wore in the beginning of the book. The kissing disease. I could relate to Mallory a lot. I always read this book hen I'm sick and every October/November. I got mono last year. I had to stay at the hospital for two days (along with a sinus infection). I got tired out easily, lost my energy. It still affects me now. I am tired out easily and I don't have a lot of energy, and whenever I get sick, I get it worse. So I can really emphathize with Mallory. Parts I don't like: Mr. And Mrs. Pike asking Mallory to babysit Claire and Margo. Ugh, they really do take advantage of her. Mallory's attempt to get kicked out of the BSC. Mallory's forced arguments with everybody. I need to reread this book.

The idea of giving older people toys was so cute; leave it to a kid to think of that gem! I really enjoyed the vision I got of the old folks in the Manor playing go-fish and throwing bean bags. As I mentioned earlier, the BSC bringing the gift basket and games to Mallory was also a cute friendship moment. I loved the Pike's Thanksgiving meal - made me hungry - and I loved how they wore their fancy clothes and drank cider out of goblets. Poor Mallory had to sit in a lawn chair though at their fancy Thanksgiving day meal - made me LOL!

I actually really liked this one. Then again I like most Mallory books because I can relate to her. So I'm a bit biased.

I really like this book. I got mono before when I was 13 or 14, but it was nowhere as severe as Mal’s. I didn’t miss school for 2 months, I only missed one or two weeks. The bonding between Mal and Margo and Claire was really sweet and I absolutely love the subplot. In November before thanksgiving comes around, I’ll reread this book!

I've never had mono, but a few years ago I had the flu that lingered for a good month. It genuinely started depressing me after a while because you start to think you're never going to feel good again.

I have never had full-blown mono, but there have been points in my life where I have been sick for a few weeks. Earlier this spring, I got sick on my vacation and couldn't shake it even after I got home. I thought I would feel better once I got back to my normal schedule so I let it go longer than I should have and I ended up with some sort of chest infection. Obviously mono is way worse, but I totally empathize with Mallory because everything is magnified when I am sick. You don't think about all the things you have to mentally prepare yourself for until every little thing drains your energy.

Last year before Christmas, I got a really bad case of the flu. It lasted longer than a month and it turned out to be a virus. I've never had mono but my sister has. Its not fun.
